Hello everyone, I've checked out the other threads for similar problems to mine, but I've had no success, and I thought I'd post my problem. I bought Minecraft yesterday for my HP pavilion dv6 laptop (i7 2.2ghz, 8gb ram, ATI Radeon 6770m HD w/ 2gb vram) and to my surprise, the game would crash anywhere from 5 seconds to 10 minutes in. The weird thing is, I've had a free version for ~2 weeks and this has never happened. The crashing has only occurred recently (once or twice before I bought the game on the free version). I've tried updating video drivers, reinstalling, BIOS updates, checking temperatures, 64 bit Java installs, clean installs, and registry cleans, and nothing is working. Does anyone know a solution? I've posted to maybe 4 other sites about my problem, and nothing has worked so far. Thanks guys! Also worth mentioning that Minecraft is the only game that this happens to, WoW and Skyrim run @ 60 fps on ultra, not sure why. Link Removed

It looks like you've been encountering issues with Minecraft crashing on your HP Pavilion dv6 laptop despite trying multiple troubleshooting steps. Since you've already tried several solutions without success, let's delve into some additional steps and potential solutions to address this problem:

Potential Solutions for Minecraft Crashing Issue:

  1. Java Version Compatibility: Ensure that you have the correct version and architecture of Java installed. Minecraft usually runs well with the latest Java versions.
  2. Graphics Drivers: Although you mentioned updating video drivers, it's essential to ensure you have the most up-to-date drivers specifically designed for the ATI Radeon 6770m HD.

  3. Java Arguments: Try adding additional Java arguments to allocate more memory or optimize performance for Minecraft. This can be configured in the Minecraft launcher settings.
  4. Game Settings: Lowering the graphics settings within Minecraft can sometimes alleviate crashing issues related to hardware strain. You can adjust settings like render distance, graphics quality, and other performance-related options.
  5. Compatibility Mode: Running Minecraft in compatibility mode or as an administrator might help with certain compatibility issues.
  6. Anti-Virus Interference: Temporarily disabling your antivirus software to check if it's interfering with Minecraft's operation.
  7. System Stability: Monitor your system's stability by checking for any overheating issues or other system errors that might impact Minecraft's performance.

    Troubleshooting Steps:

  8. Log Files: Check for any Minecraft error logs or crash reports that could provide more insight into the root cause of the crashes.
  9. Event Viewer: Look in the Windows Event Viewer for any system or application events related to Minecraft crashes.
  10. Compatibility Testing: Test Minecraft on another system to see if the issue persists. This can help isolate whether it's a system-specific problem.

    Additional Considerations:

    • Minecraft's resource requirements may differ from other games like WoW and Skyrim, which could explain why it specifically encounters issues on your system.
    • Free versions of games may have different performance requirements compared to the full versions, potentially contributing to the problem.
Before proceeding with any changes or solutions, it might be helpful to gather more information about the crashes, such as error messages or logs, to narrow down the potential causes. If you can provide any additional details or error messages, I can assist you further in troubleshooting this issue.
