"well it nice to know that i'm not the only one getting this problem. initially i thought it was my 8800GT because i got that problem constantly while playing games, well trying to play games that is. this gave me an excuse to upgrade my card to a HD 4890 which i found out does exactly the same thing but with the radeon family failed and has recovered.....does anyone know why this would happen? i even flashed the bios on my motherboard due to it not recognising brands of ram. went to the asus site and got the latest chipset drivers.

surely it cannot be my hardware as i have a asus p5q premium board, dual core 3.16ghz cpu, 8 gig of ram, XFX HD 4890 extreme video card, new HDD and a 650 watt psu."

Solution
It seems like you are experiencing issues with failing display drivers, particularly with your HD 4890 graphics card. The "display driver has failed and has recovered" error can be frustrating, especially when it interrupts gaming sessions. Given that you have already upgraded your graphics card, checked your motherboard's BIOS, and updated chipset drivers without success, there are a few more steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue: 1. Driver Update: Ensure that you have the latest graphics drivers installed for your HD 4890. Sometimes, older drivers can cause instability. You can download the latest drivers from AMD's official website. 2. System Stability Check: Run a thorough system stability...

System Stability Check: Run a thorough system stability check to rule out any other hardware-related issues that might be causing the problem. Tools like Memtest86 can help you check the integrity of your RAM. 3. Temperature Monitoring: Monitor the temperature of your graphics card during gaming sessions. Overheating can sometimes cause display driver crashes. Make sure your system is adequately cooled. 4. Power Supply: A 650W power supply should be sufficient for your setup, but ensure it is providing stable power to all components. Fluctuations in power delivery can also lead to instability. 5. Windows Updates: Make sure your Windows operating system is up to date. Sometimes, Windows updates include bug fixes that can improve system stability. 6. Event Viewer: Check the Windows Event Viewer for more information about the error. It might provide additional details that can help pinpoint the exact cause of the display driver failure. 7. Advanced Troubleshooting: If the issue persists, you can consider more advanced troubleshooting steps such as clean reinstallation of drivers, testing the graphics card in another system (if possible), or seeking assistance from a professional technician. If after trying these steps you are still unable to resolve the display driver issue, it might be worth considering alternative operating systems or seeking further help from the community or a professional technician. Hopefully, these suggestions help you in resolving the display driver problems you are facing with your HD 4890 graphics card. Let me know if you need further assistance or have any other questions!
