Hi,

Im running Windows 7 Professional 64Bit

I have Antivir as my Antivirus etc..
Broadband Connection Through a Tompson router (o2 supplier)

However, my internet connection through a cable does not connect on startup - i have to manualy "disable" the Network connectin through the Network and Sharing Centre. and then Re-enable it, for Windows 7 to connect, in order to give me access to the net.

What going wrong here?

My ethernet port is Atheros L1 Gigabit Ethernet 10/100/1000Base-T Controller (if that helps)

It sounds like you are experiencing an issue with your Ethernet connection not automatically connecting on startup in Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. This kind of problem can occur due to several reasons, including network adapter settings, driver issues, or configuration problems. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Update Ethernet Drivers:
    • Ensure that your Atheros L1 Gigabit Ethernet driver is up to date. Outdated or corrupt drivers can cause connectivity issues.

    • You can update the driver manually through Device Manager or by visiting the manufacturer's website to download and install the latest driver.
    []Check Network Adapter Settings:
    • Verify that the network adapter settings are configured correctly. Go to "Control Panel" -> "Network and Sharing Center" -> "Change adapter settings".
    • Right-click on your Ethernet adapter, select "Properties", and check the settings like IP address, DNS, and Gateway.
    [
    ]Power Management Settings:
    • Disable the option that allows Windows to turn off the device to save power. Sometimes, this setting can interfere with the network connection.
    • Go to "Device Manager", right-click on the Ethernet adapter, select "Properties", and uncheck the option under the "Power Management" tab if it's checked.
    []Check Startup Programs:
    • There might be some third-party software conflicting with the network connection on startup. Disable unnecessary startup programs through Task Manager or MSConfig to see if it resolves the issue.
    [
    ]Reset TCP/IP Stack:
    • You can reset the TCP/IP stack to its default state, which can often fix network-related issues in Windows.
    • Open Command Prompt as an administrator and type:
      Code:
       netsh int ip reset
    []Run Network Troubleshooter:
    • Use the built-in Windows Network Troubleshooter to diagnose and automatically fix common networking problems.
    [
    ]Check Router Configuration:
    • Ensure that your router settings are correct and compatible with your Ethernet connection settings. You may need to check the DHCP settings and router firmware. After following these steps, restart your computer and check if the issue persists. If the problem continues, you may want to consider seeking further assistance or contacting your network administrator for advanced troubleshooting.
