Windows 7 Downsize click area of icon

I downsized the icons on the desktop using the CTRL+Scroll option (works fine). As I would also like to keep using the "align to grid" option (instead of not using it at all) I would like to downsize the click area of the Icons (which stays as wide as it was originally) so that I can get the icons placed closer to each other.
Does anybody know on how to do this? (coudn't find a solution in the forum)

Hi pacsmas,

Go to Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Personalization\Window Color and Appearance
Click 'Advanced appearance settings...'
Select Icon spacing '(horizontal)' or 'Icon spacing (vertical)' from the dropdown menu
Resize as desired, and click apply

Hi Walker,

This works great! Thanks very much. For any other followers of this thread: Mind you: when downsizing you also dnwsize the space for the textual part of the icon. With longer texts as program names you will have abberviated names untill you clik on it again.
