Windows 7 Error upon bootup.

Hi, so a couple of days ago, my pc just stopped working. I re-booted to find that there was an error booting to windows. Can't remeber the exact error but it couldn't find a specific file(s).

I went onto my windows 8 laptop, downloaded a windows 7 iso and the usb burning tool from the microsoft website, as I currently don't have any clean disks around. I make the USB bootable, and install the iso onto it. It claims to be all working well.

When I reboot, and select the USB as main bootup... it loads the windows files, gets stuck and loads the error:

0xc00000e9

I have looked upon many other forums with users experiencing the same problem, but their solutions have not worked...

Please help.
Cheers.

Hi,
that error means an unexpected I/O operation has occurred and is often to do with harddrives, corrupt files and the like. Could the Windows 7 iso be at fault?

It may be, but seemings how I downloaded it from links that another sindows 7 forum provided (http://www.w7forums.com/threads/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-image-downloads.12325/) I do hope not.

I'm currently running a version of Kali linux so I can try and reslove the issue. Via test here, the SSD fails to appear in computer... maybe that's corrupt?

If the SSD is corrupt, should I completely wipe it or can you suggest another course of action.

Usually those downloads are considered ok so it might not be the iso. If your trying to install to an SSD but it doesn't appear have you checked in the Bios to see if the machine see's it there? Also SSD's prefer AHCI mode are you running AHCI or in IDE mode?

In the bios, it does recognise the SSD, but just not on the Kali linux interface. It is also in AHCI mode.

Yup I just sent a pm to a forum member who has more experience with Linux than I and is also extremely competent toboot.. :)

The fact of the matter is however, that Kali is a Linux distribution specifically geared towards professional penetration testing and security auditing and as such, it is NOT a recommended distribution for those unfamiliar with Linux.

Before you get to far afield with Kali, which I assume you are running from a "Live" environment, I'll admit that I have no idea as to how it handles an SSD in AHCI mode and what drivers might or might not be present for you specific Hard Disk Controller.... So that fact that it doesn't see it might not be critical. However: the fact that you have two separate Operating Systems having problems with the same SSD may be indicative of a problem with that drive.

Maybe begin again by re-downloading the correct version and bit architecture for your install of Windows 7 from here http://techdows.com/2011/07/downloa...h-sp1-iso-official-direct-download-links.html
And rebuild your USB installation using that. Just in case there was any corruption with the download or the files placed on the USB device or even perhaps a problem with the USB device itself.

You may also want to use your system's BIOS utility to switch for AHCI to NATIVE IDE just as a test to see if that has any impact on your issue.

And if you want to continue testing with a Linux Live Distro, maybe try something a little more user friendly like http://www.linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=159

After a fair bit of work with kali over the past couple of weeks, I've grown to love it, being an ubuntu fan myself. But Kali is not a great operating system for games. So, with a few scripts, I wiped the SSD, hopefully this may yeild results.

I'm currently using those ISO files to restore. Will edit when done.
