Windows 7 explorer.exe issues, please help

hey guys, I posted this on daniweb but I'm not sure anyone goes there for anything but the programming boards, so I'd like to run it by this forum. I have windows 7 64 bit, and explorer is acting up, like the title says of course. When i log in, every program freezes and then explorer "stops working" and when it restarts the programs that are running work fine again. i only have 1 start up program, which is not even by my choice, but msn messenger seems to keep putting itself back into my startup. If you need more info about the computer or have any suggestions that'd be great.

I have been having the same issue on both my computers for some time now. The last Windows update seemed to fix it for a while but then it started crashing again. I'm not exactly sure what the problem is and i don't even have msn messenger so that has nothing to do with it... it actually usually starts right up just fine the second or third time though so i don't know what to think about it.
