It seems like your HDD is functioning properly, but it's not appearing in Device Manager or Computer Management on your Windows XP SP3 system. However, it does show up in Windows Explorer, and the LED blinks occasionally. This issue can be a bit puzzling, but there are a few things we can check and try to resolve the problem:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Check Disk Management:
    • Since the HDD is not showing up in Device Manager or Computer Management, it's essential to verify if it appears in Disk Management.
    []Drive Letter Assignment:

    • Since the HDD is not showing up in Device Manager or Computer Management, it's essential to verify if it appears in Disk Management.
    []Drive Letter Assignment:
    • Sometimes, a drive may not show up in certain places due to a lack of a drive letter assignment. In Disk Management, you can assign a drive letter to the HDD if necessary.

    ]Check Cable Connections:
    • Ensure that the SATA/IDE cables connecting the HDD to the motherboard are secure and not loose.
    []Update Drivers:
    • Make sure that you have the latest drivers installed for your motherboard and HDD if applicable. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause such issues.
    [
    ]Check Power Settings:
    • Check your power settings to ensure that the HDD is not being powered down or put to sleep, causing it to intermittently disappear.
  2. BIOS Settings:
    • Access the BIOS settings and confirm that the HDD is detected correctly by the BIOS.

      Additional Information:

    • Partition Wizard v7:
    • While Partition Wizard is a reliable tool, there could have been an issue during partitioning and formatting that has led to this behavior. You may want to check the partition settings.
    • Indexing Service:
    • Since you have mentioned that indexing is turned off, this should not be causing the issue. However, it's good to verify if other services or settings are affecting the HDD visibility.

Let's start by checking if the HDD is visible in Disk Management. Please open Disk Management and let me know if the HDD is listed there. If you encounter any specific errors or messages, please provide those details as well.
