I have a E1505 laptop that powers the media center on the left. and powers the os on the right. To install media center I was told that would have to install first and then the os. Assuming I install windows 7 this fall how will I get the media center power button to work correctly or in other words how do I partion this.

Didn't the os ask for the partions (I told it to clean install and 100% went to winows 7 rc). If I were to do a clean install now how would I seperate the partions correctly. Thanks.

To properly partition your hard drive when installing Windows 7 along with a Media Center, you'll need to follow these steps:

Partitioning the Hard Drive:

  1. Prepare Installation:
    • Insert the Windows 7 installation disc and boot from it.
    • Proceed with the installation until you reach the "Install now" screen.
    []Access Disk Partitioning:
    • At the screen where you select where to install Windows, you will find an option to create and format partitions.
    • Click on "Drive options (advanced)".
    [
    ]Create Partitions:
    • Here, you can create, delete, format, and extend partitions.
    • Click on the drive where you want to install Windows and select "New" to create a new partition...

    []Allocate Space:
    • Enter the desired size for the partition where you plan to install Windows. You can also create a separate partition for your Media Center here.
    • Ensure you leave enough space for both operating systems.
    [
    ]Format Partitions:
    • Format the partitions appropriately. The partition for the OS should be formatted as NTFS.
    • You can allocate a different drive letter for each partition as needed.
    []Complete Installation:
    • Continue with the Windows installation process, selecting the partition you created for Windows 7.
    • Install Windows 7 on the specified partition.

      Power Button Configuration:

    [
    ]Power Button Function:
    • For the Media Center power button to work correctly, you may need to configure it through the Control Panel or the settings provided by your laptop's manufacturer.
    • Check the laptop's manual or the manufacturer's website for information on setting up the power button for Media Center.

      Reinstalling Windows:

    • If you plan to do a clean install now:
    • Boot from the Windows 7 installation disc.
    • Follow the partitioning steps mentioned above to create partitions for both Windows and the Media Center. By following these steps, you can properly partition your hard drive when installing Windows 7 alongside a Media Center and configure the Media Center power button to work as needed. If you encounter any issues during the installation process, feel free to ask for further assistance.
