I have a computer that is having random BSOD throughout the day, but at irregular intervals. This is the first time I've tried to fix BSOD before and any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Hi,
We have dump experts who will examine your dump files, but you should know we also really need to have the exact Make/Model of your computer in order to best help you. Also, please tell us if it's a desktop or a laptop, and the version of Windows being run.

Thanks,
<<<BIGBEARJEDI>>>

Thanks for the quick reply! Sorry about the missing info. The PC is a Dell Optiplex 990 with i5-2400 and 8 GB RAM and running Windows 7 professional.

One classic thing is heat. How long ago did you vacuum or use pressurized air to clean your comp?

Hi Shaun,
apologies as I initially missed your post until a friend told me about your thread. I've moved your thread to the correct section and am just starting to debug now. I'll post back in around 20-45 mins.

Hi Shaun,
the majority or the dump files were like the one posted above. This bugcheck can be caused by a drivers especially ones which have been modded and/or faulty memory. The other thing I noticed was the dates. You don't have any dump files for this year and in fact the last one is dated September 2014! So they are quite sparse as you say... :)
Updates.
Your drivers are a little out of date as is your Bios.
BiosVersion = A11
BiosReleaseDate = 12/30/2011
SystemManufacturer = Dell Inc.
SystemProductName = OptiPlex 990
Please ensure the link below is correct for your machine and then update the bios.
http://www.dell.com/support/home/uk/en/ukbsdt1/product-support/product/optiplex-990/drivers

avgmfx64.sys Fri Dec 23 12:08:12 2011: AVG AV known on occasion to cause the odd issue. Uninstall to test and use MSE for the meantime as it's ultra stable:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows/security-essentials-download

atikmdag.sys Sat Aug 31 01:02:50 2013: AMD GPU driver. I searched for the driver which suited the HD 6450 as it was specified in the driver section of your system support page. If I'm incorrect then please change the download to suit:
http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows 8.1 - 64

Please run the Intel Driver update utility:
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/default.aspx

RTDVHD64.sys Tue Sep 14 04:44:34 2010: Realtek High Definition Audio Function Driver please update:
http://www.realtek.com/downloads/do...=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

If after making the above changes you still get the bsod then you need to test your RAM.
Windows does have it's own memory testing app but it can often miss errors and the best app for the job is Memtest86. The latest version of which can be found here:
http://www.memtest.org/

To run Memtest86 you need to either burn a copy of it to disk or use a USB stick. If you look down the page you'll eventually find the latest version and it's associated downloads. If your burning to disk choose the pre-compiled iso zip. If your using a USB method then the corresponding download is the auto installer for a USB stick.
Once you have Memtest86 on the media you selected you'll then need to enter your bios and change the boot order so that the machine will boot from either the disk or stick you have Memtest86 on.
Run the test for at least 12hrs if possible unless it becomes clear that there is a issue. If there is a problem with the RAM you'll see the errors pop up in red so you can't miss them.

Post any new dump files

Thanks for the response! I'm going to try and go through all of the steps, but it might take some time as I am trying to resolve this remotely with the assistance of an user that isn't super knowledgeable about computers... He has been getting regular BSOD (the latest was this morning), but unfortunately (I don't really know why) no dump files were being created. If one was created this morning I will upload as soon as possible. I have already given him the instructions to run Memtest86, but we will definitely do the rest as well. Thanks again for your help!

If he was creating dump files and they stopped that could be down to a number of reasons. If the PageFile has been changed (pagefiles are sometimes affected when SSD's are installed especially if the accompanying software is used) to lower than 200MB then dump files won't be created. Storage issues can affect the process also. You could always try running a chkdsk just to see how the HDD is?
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/guide-to-using-check-disk-in-windows-vista/
(the guide is a little old but is basically the same for each os)

Ok, see how you go and if you get any new dump files or just need any advice post back.. Good luck!
