[h=3]internet connection sharing: No internet access!?[/h]I am trying to setup internet connection sharing between my laptop (Connected to WiFi) and my pc which has no wireless connection. I've spent a day or two troubleshooting problems such as 'LAN' doesn't have valid configuration and such, i found a solution and I've got the two connections to be able to see each other, but i can't get an internet connection to go through.

I have my ipconfig /all for both computers available: (Both have had excess trimmed off to save on character limit)

If there is anything else needed please post and i'll add it.

Hi Ben, which of these computers is supposed to work as the ICS "server"? How do the others connect to it?

I assume they're both running Win7... Did you check the "allow other network users to connect through this computers internet connection" checkbox on your laptop's LAN connection properties? And select Wireless in the drop down menu below?

they're both windows 7, it was already checked, and what drop down menu below???

OK, never mind, my mistake with the drop down menu.
Do you have any firewalls that might be blocking the connection? Are you able to ping one computer from the other? Can you share files and folders between the 2 PCs?

i have no firewalls up atm, i couldn't ping for a bit, but i changed my subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 and i could ping, the laptop cannot access my main pc's files, but from my main pc i can access the laptop after putting in a password

Uhm, strange... could you check these settings from the official Win 7 ICS page?

Open Internet Options by clicking the Start button Link Removed due to 404 Error, clicking Control Panel, clicking Network and Internet, and then clicking Internet Options.

Click the Connections tab, and then click Never dial a connection.

Click LAN Settings.

In the Local Area Network (LAN) Settings dialog box, UnderAutomatic configuration, clear the Automatically detect settings andUse automatic configuration script check boxes.

Under Proxy server, clear the Use a proxy server for your LAN check box, and then click OK.

Also, why is the default gateway for the "server" PC's ethernet default gateway and DNS set to 10.0.0.7? That's the "host" PC's address, isn't it? It won't have DNS running and it won't respond as default gateway. That should be the same as the wireless card's setting, so 10.0.0.138.
Any results?

fixed up the default gateways and DNS, i had them set like that because it would show the networks as unidentified when they werent, now the lan network on my laptop shows unidentified and the main pc shows network 3, i also cant ping my laptop ip (10.0.0.6) from my main pc, but can ping the main pc (10.0.0.8) from the laptop

Hang on, Ben, I'm getting confused here, could you please post an updated version of the various ipconfig outputs? I thought the main PC's IP was 10.0.0.7...

sure, i had to change the ip because my wifi decided that it had to change ip after i reset it, it took the 10.0.0.7 slot

OK, now both ethernet cards are using the same IP, which might be a bit of a problem, try changing the host PC's IP address to .9 or .10 or whatever else you like.
Also, how do you connect to the internet? I'm puzzled as to why the DHCP and DNS services are running on a machine that seems to be on the local network.

So what's the new IP?
For the connection i meant what kind of a connection it is, ADSL?

OK, now set the host PC's DNS and DHCP to 10.0.8, the new IP for the laptop's ethernet card and ping again
