My Windows 10 laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad X220) is failing to wake from sleep. It goes to sleep normally but after half a minute the sleep light goes off (it should stay on), and when I press the button (which should wake it) it reboots, then works normally. The problem occurs on both battery and mains power.

Running "chkdsk c: /f /r /x" fixes the problem completely.

But then it happens again two days later.

Running "chkdsk c: /f /r /x" again fixes the problem.

What might be causing this please?

    Hard Drive Health:

  3. Check Hard Drive Health: Use tools like CrystalDiskInfo or HD Tune to check the health of your hard drive.
  4. Run Disk Error Check: Use the built-in Windows Disk Check Utility to look for and repair disk errors. You mentioned running chkdsk, but continue to use this tool when needed.
  5. Backup Important Data: Prioritize backing up your important data regularly to avoid data loss in case the issue escalates.

    Power and Sleep Settings:

  6. Update Drivers: Ensure that all your device drivers are up to date, especially those related to power management and system components.
  7. Power Plan Settings: Modify your power plan settings (Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options) to ensure they align with your usage preferences.
  8. Turn off Hybrid Sleep: Disable Hybrid Sleep and check if that resolves the issue.

    System Maintenance:

  9. Software Conflicts: Ensure there are no background processes causing conflicts. Use Task Manager to identify resource-heavy applications.
  10. Temp Files and Clean-Up: Disk Cleanup, deleting temporary files, and regular maintenance can improve overall system performance.

    Professional Help:

If the issue persists after exhausting these steps, it might be worth consulting a professional technician to perform a detailed diagnostic and provide personalized solutions. By following these steps, you can hopefully pinpoint the root cause of the wake-from-sleep issue on your laptop and address it effectively.
