Microsoft release demo's of Office 2016 Touch Preview
Office for Windows 10 offers touch-optimized versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Outlook that work great on small screen devices like your phone and tablet—all the way up to the Microsoft Surface Hub. They are designed from the ground up to run on Windows 10, built for touch and offer the unmistakable Office experience you know and love. As “universal” Office apps, they truly are the same app across device size, providing a consistent way for independent software vendors and developers to extend and integrate with Office apps.

These new Office apps will be pre-installed for free on phones and small tablets running Windows 10, and available to download from the Windows Store for other devices. The Office universal apps will be available with the Windows 10 Technical Preview in the coming weeks and general availability is on track for later this year.

Solution
I just tried the new Office 2016 Public Preview and one of the effects of installing is that you will not be able to continue using Outlook neither does a version come with the Preview. So if your main way of collecting emails is to use Outlook you may have to weigh up your options..
Thanks for posting this... I'm testing Word and Excel now.

I've not got round to testing yet , how are they?

I didn't get far... appears you need the beta store to get these and not the normal store.

If it ever loads I'll be happy to test it out.

I'm using them and have been for some time....I'm really liking the new Word.....

Would you mind posting the testbed?

@anyone, I'm interested in finding out if these work when only the linked system is touch screen enabled, eg. windows 10 installed on say a hyper-v (non-touch) server but the remote laptop is touch... I assume this would work but it is a Microsoft product so best not to assume.

Scratch that....I just saw Word and free preview....completely overlooked the "touch" part.....

OPP's!!!!!

update: the store will now load but the app still errors out... p.s. this error (0xc03f7000) is Microsoft fucked up big time and didn't put a copy of the file onto all their download servers.

I have downloaded, installed and deleted a couple of times without problems. Last install, unfortunately, due to my own bungling, failed to run, so i decided to wait for the next OS build. No biggy for me as I do not use Word. We all have favourites and mine is Apache (ex Open Office) does everything I require.

No. I have a large touch screen (Dell all-in one). I still find it easier and more convenient to use the mouse and/or keyboard. (I am getting too old for new tricks - lol)

That's right you can now try Office 2016 for yourself..

Do be aware though that once the trial is over you'll need to install your old version of Office by using the original activation key:
Once the trial period expires, you will have the option to purchase an Office 365 subscription or reinstall your current version using your original product key, Link Removed.

Solution
I may have been premature. It now seems that Outlook is upgrading but far more slowly or not at all..lol I'll let you know how it turns out.

Stuck with an activation problem.
Not sure what's going on but if anyone figures it out, please let me know.

Trouble are you talking about the old version or the new version which I have not tried. I was told a few weeks ago that the old version of office would not work in Windows 10. Don't know if that is true or not. I do know mine won't work.

Talking about the new Consumer Preview of Office 2016, which just became available today.

What exactly, Trouble?

I had a glitch, but it was a lack of correct info (or something!!!)

When I arrived at the finished install, it asked for my live login associated with the product, or the serial. I put in the live login, which it then said it couldn't find, so I entered the serial which had come with the product. In case you missed it:

But, one very curious thing. I have whined about my VERY slow connection previously, but the streaming for this trial was exceptionally slow. It stuck at 67 % so, I thought, what the heck - it was only curiosity. I abandoned it by logging out and in. When I opened the start menu, it was listed as installed and worked 100%. Weird.
