A Big +1 to Everyone!

It's that time of month again. We are pleased to announce the introduction of the Google +1 Button. Google +1 is a new API feature from the world's leading search engine company that allows you to show your like for certain content. Much like Facebook's Like button, and the Windows 7 Forums Like button, Google +1 allows you to rate content in a simple, but very effective way.

In general, by using the various like buttons on the site, it becomes possible to not only give props to the contributors to a posting, but to also share that information with others. With Google +1, however, for so long as you maintain a Google account, you can use +1 across a number of sites to help refine your search for information.

We spent the time to implement it on Windows7Forums.com because we like to give our viewers the options and tools that they need to rate content. With so many options, including thread ratings, Google +1, Facebook Like, and the Forum Like, there are now so many ways to judge the character of content. But best of all, this feature can only work for so long as our members take advantage of it.

Here's a run down of the benefits of each feature:

Facebook Like: Use this one to share content with your friends on Facebook because you find it that much more valuable.

Forum Like: Let everyone on the forum know that you like this thread, post, or even blog entry. The forum keeps tracks of exactly how many likes you send out, and to who. Naturally, we also display how many people liked your stuff on your profile as well.

Google +1: Use the big Google +1 to get customized content through Google based on your valuation of a post. This is the newest "like" feature around, and in the future, it could be one of the most important. It kind of reminds us of the One Up in Super Mario Brothers... but any way...

Thread Ratings: Hey, did you know you can actually rate a thread? Well thats great if you do, since almost no one uses it! But the best part is that this is quite possibly the most direct way of rating a thread. The more people who rate a thread the better: you actually gain forum experience points for doing it, and a valuation of the thread's worth appears that can become very accurate the more times. individuals use the feature.

So what's the big deal about Google +1? Find out yourself with this video:

Options to share your opinion on a thread are a great way for the forum community to exert their influence. Just imagine if everyone used this features!

Now, onto even more interesting news!

We Can't Stop Traveling at LiteSpeed!

Quite awhile ago, the website made a major investment in web server technology. That investment came with the replacement of Apache Web Server with none other than LiteSpeed Technologies' LiteSpeed Web Server. LiteSpeed is so fast compared to conventional web servers, that we know it has knocked peoples socks off around the world. Well, maybe it didn't do that, but instead of marinating web pages before they arrived on your web browser, we suddenly became a speedy fast food restaurant when it comes to information sharing. The website has been updated to the latest version of LiteSpeed, and that includes some better page loading. Release Notes.

Stressing (Sometimes About) Editorial Integrity
The vision for Windows7Forums.com has always been to provide our members with the power to conduct their own questions and answers. And from those questions and answers, a large database of integrity would be formed that would allow people from around the world to search for information and find an answer. With the latest enhancements to vBulletin, we are looking at better search, better memory optimization, and a great software suite in general. Text is now auto-saved, but what's more: Our database and collection of useful information continues to grow. We are going to be looking at ways to improve that even further in the future.

One of the most important policy changes that we have made over the last several days has been our policy on full text copying and pasting of articles. The Internet has changed, but the basic respect that publishers place on the work of others always needs to be maintained. That is why we have advocated changes and deleted posts that do not conform to these rules. The rules for publishing 3rd party content are simple: Give credit where credit is due, and do your homework. That means no full text copying and pasting of articles unless it falls under Fair Use. What is Fair Use? Any constructive reporting of newsworthy events, parody, or other types of content falls under 1st amendment and Fair Use protection. So if you want to source an article, and use an excerpt of it in a post, we must ask that you provide a synopsis and reasoning for doing so. This accomplishes a lot of things. But best of all, it prevents angry authors who publish stuff on the Internet from wondering why people are talking about it. Go figure!

What's Next?

Those of you with an Android phone should be excited about our application in the Google Marketplace. We're still working on it. Actually, lots of people are working on the code base. Furthermore, as we look to the future, we are checking on new and innovative ways to improve Windows7Forums.com. It is inspiring to see some groups spring up overnight, and this is definitely a sign that we are on the right path. One thing is certain: We will always value the opinions and constructive criticisms of our members. And we have a great idea that bringing our members the latest possible forum software gives you a sandbox to make this site even better. It is our members who make the website what it is.

Now, there will be even more updates, so stay tuned!

Seems to be a bit of an issue with the Goggle #1 API and Internet Explorer 9. However seems to work fine with Chrome, as you can see, I've successfully awarded this article with a #1. Will have to check with Opera and Safari, I assumed you've already checked FireFox.

It is not possible for this problem to exist. Please try resetting your browser to manufacturer defaults, as this problem does not exist on multiple installations of Windows under multiple browsers. Thus, this must be an internal problem with your web browser settings.

Well it may not be possible, but not only does it exist, but it persists. Even after following your recommendations, and deleteing everything from IE9, resetting it to factory defaults and cleaning up with Ccleaner including the registry and rebooting. However it does work swimmingly in Opera, Safari, and Chrome.
