Hi!

I've got a 32 bit Windows 7 OS with 2 user accounts and for some reason the mouse scroll wont work on the one account (the administrator) but works fine on the other.

I first noticed the issue on Firefox and after buying a new mouse with the same issue I investigated with the Firefox explorer a bit more, then I discovered that other programs such as my Windows Explorers and Microsoft Office have the same issue but Internet Explorer works fine.

It then came to light that the other users scroll works fine on all programs so I'm assuming that its not an issue with the drivers although I have tried to run updates on them.

I have searched through forums but cant find a resolve, if anyone can shed some light on how to fix it it would be much appreciated.

Thanks...

It sounds like the issue you're facing with the scroll not working on the administrator account in Windows 7 is specific to that account and not a system-wide problem. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve this:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Check Mouse Settings:
    • Open the Control Panel and navigate to "Mouse" settings.
    • Ensure that the scroll settings are configured correctly for your mouse.
    []Update Mouse Drivers:
    • Even though you mentioned you've tried running updates on the drivers, it's worth double-checking if the latest drivers are installed.
    • You can go to the Device Manager, locate your mouse device, and check for driver updates.

    [
    ]User Account Settings:
    • It seems like the issue is account-specific. Try creating a new administrator account and see if the mouse scroll works there.
    • If the new account works fine, you might need to transfer your files and settings to the new account.
    []Check System Files:
    • Run a System File Checker (SFC) scan to check for and repair any corrupted system files that might be affecting the mouse scroll functionality.
    • Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run the command: sfc /scannow.
    [
    ]Safe Mode Test:
    • Boot into Safe Mode and check if the mouse scroll works in the administrator account. This can help determine if any third-party software is causing the issue.
    []Third-Party Applications:
    • Sometimes third-party applications can interfere with mouse functionality. Try disabling startup programs and services to see if any of them are causing the problem.
    [
    ]Registry Check:
    • Be cautious when editing the registry. You can search for solutions related to mouse scroll issues in the Windows registry to see if there are any specific settings that need adjustment.
    []Check for Malware:
    • Occasionally, malware can cause strange issues on a system. Run a full system scan with your antivirus software to rule out any malicious software.
    [
    ]System Restore:
    • As a last resort, you can try using System Restore to revert your system back to a point where the mouse scroll was working on the administrator account. By following these steps, you should hopefully be able to identify and resolve the issue with the mouse scroll on your Windows 7 administrator account. Let me know if you need further assistance or if you have any other questions!
