Windows 7 Problem when trying to create/join a home group

I have a desktop and a laptop. I'm trying to do this homegroup thing but it isnt working for my desktop.

It wont allow me to create a home group or join one if i create it on my laptop. It can detect my laptops homegroup though. Every time i try to join or create it gets stuck at the loading bar screen.

Not sure what the problem is or what I can do about it.

Any suggestions?

It's possible, that you may have to take both computers back to the beginning (Public) as suggested in this article, take a look and see if it helps at all;
