Hello there,

Hope someone can help me here.....

Last week i bought a PlayOn HD network media player and have been having constant problems trying to share my folders to my PC running Win 7 since...

I set up my folders to share on my PC and switched on my media player.....i selected automatic setup but the player was saying DHCP not ready and can't get IP but i could stream internet radio through the box and check out the live feeds but when i try to access my shared folders i get asked for login details which i don't have.

I followed a guide in the official forum for my media player to adjust some registry settings and how to pick the correct sharing options in network settings and it worked for that day.

Next day i switched on and i am asked again for login details and i go through the proceedure again but it does not work this time.....i spend hours messing about with the network settings and finally manage to get to my folders without being asked for login details.

Switched on today and the same thing asking for login details

I can still stream radio and can connect to my folders using the UPnP option with PS3mediaserver running on my PC but my HD movies crash because they are being transcoded on the fly.....thats why i bought the media box.

I am wired connected.

I don't know what else i can do to sort this problem out.

Appreciate any help.

Thanks.

The issue seems to revolve around authentication problems when accessing shared folders on your network. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Check Sharing Settings:
    • Ensure that the folders you want to share are set to be shared on your Windows 7 PC.
    • Verify that the network discovery and file sharing settings are correctly configured in the Network and Sharing Center in Windows. Make sure that the network is set to "Home" network type.
  2. Reset Network Settings:
    • Sometimes, network issues can be resolved by resetting the network settings on both your PC and the media player. Restart your router and modem as well.
  3. Check Workgroup Settings:
    • Confirm that both your PC and the media player are part of the same workgroup. This can impact network sharing.
  4. Check Firewall and Antivirus Settings:
    • Temporarily disable the firewall and antivirus software on your PC to see if they are blocking the sharing process. If disabling them resolves the issue, you may need to add exceptions for the media player.
  5. Create a Specific User Account:
    • Create a specific user account on your PC with a password and use these credentials when prompted for login details by the media player. This can sometimes bypass authentication issues.
  6. Use Static IP Addresses:
    • Set static IP addresses for both your PC and the media player to ensure consistent connectivity.
  7. Update Firmware:
    • Check if there are any firmware updates available for your PlayOn HD network media player. Updating the firmware can sometimes address compatibility issues.

      Additional Suggestions:

      • Consider contacting PlayOn support for specific guidance related to your media player model.
      • Try accessing the shared folders using different protocols or applications to see if the issue persists.
By following these steps and suggestions, you may be able to troubleshoot the login issue and successfully share your folders with your PlayOn HD network media player. If you encounter any specific error messages or issues during these steps, feel free to provide more details for further assistance.
