Windows 7 Processes That Won't die

Occasionally, I run into a process that won't die, even though the associated app has been closed, and even using the Task Manager"s "End Process" or "End Process Tree" fails to effect the process. That only way I've found to kill it is by rebooting, but of course, that is often very inconvenient.

Is there a stronger, more effective means of killing these?

Are you certain that the process relates only to the app in question? Have a look at Process Monitor, free from here - might give you the additional info you're looking for:

Process Monitor

I second patcooke. There are other similar programs to Process Monitor, too. Mainly an issue that something gets hooked up and Windows doesn't seem to be able to get rid of it. Not that fatal, it may be highly annoying.
