Windows 7 Random BSOD 0xF4

I know which kind of worried me initially and is also why i wanted you to run the upgrade advisor.

Try this... Use the vista drivers because laptops almost always use drivers made available from the laptops manufacturer. If you encounter issues try running the upgrade advisor as this will highlight any possible issues which we may be able to find a workaround:

Upgrade advisor tells me my device is fully compatible witth windows 7.
After some fiddling I seem to have a stable system now (no freezes or bsods for a long time) BUT i haven't got any windows updates installed at this time.
So next step I will take is create a restore point and start installing windows updates :)
