Windows 7 router without password

I was advised by Belkin not to set a password but to just 'submit' to enter the router. They did say to set a strong security key.
The reason was the password might not work and I could not enter the router. I think the obvious is that if the router is worth its salt, it should accept a reliable password and also a strong security key with WPA2.
I don't know if they have had issues with a password but the bug is in my mind. if I can't get in I can just press the reset anyway -correct?
Please give me your take on this?

That was my immediate thought as I read your post. I certainly would not advocate running a router with no password protection on access to router management.
