Yes but on my Gateway had the same thing so i don't know about that but I have two moniters.
If it's not your power settings and the same this happened with this monitor on your Gateway, I would say it's the monitor and with the price of most monitors being fairly cheap it would not be work repairing

Is this when the computer sits idle? Is the monitor actually turning off?

Are you power settings set to turn the monitor off? Do you have another computer you can hook the monitor up to for testing?
