I installed Windows 7 on 10/23/09 (or close to that date) and I did a clean install. The key I got for it was from my work. It says it is activated. About a week ago when I turned on my laptop I noticed my Desktop Wallpaper wasn't there. I tried looking in the Personalize option and tried changing the wallpaper but nothing happened it just remained solid Black. I looked then in my pictures folder to see if they were removed somehow but they weren't. All that's there is a description of the picture and not a little thumbnail view of the picture itself. If I double click on the picture it opens up in the windows Picture Viewer and I can see it then. Now if I right mouse click on it and click on "Set as desktop background", I get an error stating "This image can't be set as wallpaper. An internal error has occurred." If I go out to the internet and find a picture I like and right mouse click on that picture and go to "Set image as wallpaper", it will show up just fine.

I've tried some of the other things mentioned in some of the previous threads about this but it still hasn't worked for me. The things I haven't tried are repair installing Windows 7 or creating a new user and moving all the files to that user. I was just wondering if there is a way to fix this or are they coming out with an update to fix it or do I have to go through those steps in order for my desktop to be restored to it's original functionality?

Thanks in Advance for any help,
Trevor.

I have seen one situation where the picture was corrupt. Do you have another copy or give the specs of the file?

Pictures

The pictures that I am trying to set as my wallpaper are the pictures that come with Windows. When you go to the personalize option once you right click on the desktop, then click on the Desktop Background option once in the window. Those pictures and any other pictures that I download all come up the same way. They are not shown in a little preview thumbnail, the only time I can see them is if I double click on them and look at them in the Windows Picture Veiwer.

Have you tried changing the picture location, say to your pictures directory? It looks like you can select one, for a single scene, or several for a slideshow.

Do you know what version of W 7 the key was for? I have no experience with an Enterprise version, so it may limit what you can do. Have you asked other folks at work if theirs does the same thing?

Maybe try copying some of the files to a different folder you create. Since files take on the permissions of the parent folder, maybe you could use them then.

Internal error

I tried moving the pictures to a different folder but to no avail.

The cd key was for Windows 7 porfessional and that is what is installed on my computer. There are only two of us at my work and we get the cd keys because we are part of a global franchise so we are part of the MAPS service from Microsoft.

I've attached 3 pictures to help explain and show my dilemma.

The first picture titled Desktop Background Page. This is what my pictures folder looks like as well. Notice how there are no pictures in the boxes if I right mouse click on one of the pictures and go to preview it opens up the Windows Picture Viewer.

The second picture (Windows Photo Viewer) is what it looks like in the Windows Picture Viewer. It comes up just fine. Then if I right mouse click on the picture and go to "Set as desktop background" option I get the message in the next attached picture.

The last picture (Error) is the error message I get when I try to set any picture on my computer to my desktop background. Pictures on the internet that I right click on and go to "Set as Desktop Background" work just fine.

Tbensen,

Boot from the Windows 7 DVD, run the repair function and this should resolve your issue. Should you require additional assistance, Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 Support Forum located here Windows 7 Category.
