Windows 7 Video issues after installing RC - 8800GT...help!

Last night I installed the Win 7 RC and unlike the beta which ran fine, I am having some serious driver issues. I have an EVGA GeForce 8800GT connected to an HDTV which is my only display. At install the display was OK but the screen was not resizable and the edges including the start menu were off the side of the display so I did the available update for the driver and when it loaded I completely lost video to it until it loaded into Windows and then the image constantly rolled.

The only way to make it work was to attach a 2nd monitor and set my HDTV as primary but I still get no image til in Windows and can't disconnect the 2nd monitor - which I do not want attached. I am very close to going back to Vista or Linux where this was not an issue...I would stay on Win 7 Beta which worked fine but that is due to start shutting down soon.

Anyone else run into this?

8800gt problmes as well

I just installed the RC of the 64bit Windows 7 and haveing issues with an 8800gt my issues aren't as bad as the dude above but but my driver randomly crashes it is the latest from nvidia 186.18. I am using dual monitors dunno if htat makes a differnce or not. its random too like could be ten mins or an hour inbetween crashes. no mater the app that is running.

Hello and welcome,

Even if you can't access the Start button or taskbar, you should be able to right-click on the desktop and bring up Nvidia's Control Panel and click the Resize display here

Did you download the drivers from Nvidia's site as the EVGA card uses the same GPU

displays show up fine its the latest Nvidia drivers straight from their site not EVGA's though my card is an EVGA as well. It just randomly crashes every 10 mins or so ... i'm totally at a loss, i even went to an older driver that 7 installed by itself however that does the same thing, the card isn't over heating its sitting at 43C idle and about 50C load it works fine in XP and Vista just not 7

What is your setup like?

HDMI and optical?

What's the exact error message you get when trying to install other drivers?

Im not the OP my setup is a 22" monitor 1680x1050 and a 17" monitor 1280x1024 both through DVI on an EVGA 8800GT driver was released June 10 / 09

Whitmore.

Do you receive any error message? Is it a Blue screen?

In order to troubleshoot your problem we need to know more detailed specs of your system hardware.

1. Go to Start > Run, and type msinfo32, look under the Components section for hardware identification
2. Go to Control Panel > Device Manager and look for any entry that has a yellow flag beside it
3. The manufacturer name and model number of your PC, if applicable
4 Please fill out your computers specs in the User Control Panel here on the site as well. It will then appear next to your name. look at my posting and you'll see the drop-down arrow.

The exact make and model of your motherboard would be of great help also.
Are you suing the official RC directly from Microsoft?
Did this occur immediately after install?
Do you recall installing any software that may have caused the problem?

apriciate the help so far ! :) You don't have to dumb it down for me tho i work with computers all day long.

Specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo e6600 @ 3.55GHZ on Water Cooling
4GB DDR2 1066mhz Corsair Dominator
500GB WD Caviar 16mb buffer
EVGA 8800gt 512mb 600mhz core 900mhz memory (forget the sharder right this second all stock clocks) with Accelero S1 Cooler
Pioneer 22x DVD-RW

I read on a few other forums people having issues with dual monitors in windows 7 so for the sack of troubleshooting i got rid of my second. I still get the "Driver has stopped responding" error message in the bottom right of the screen.

Basically it is intermittent every 10 mins or so be it gaming or just on the desktop the screen flickers black then i get the driver has stopped responding error message. i have tried almost all the driver releases that Nvidia has out for 7 so far the only one i have yet to try is the latest 190.15 beta. but not holding my breath.

Any other thoughts.

Oh I'm 64 bit windows 7 if i didn't mention that.

Same problem with ATI 2600 XT

dont write this off as NVidia problem too quickly
I am having the SAME issue on my HP Laptop with ATI HD2600 XT
Did an "upgrade" from Vista 64 which was running perfectly

Had this issue, got the "new" drivers from Windows Update, did not fix it.

Installed newest drivers from ATI site, released 6/15/09.. did not fix it.

Hope MS will take a look at this issue as it does not seem to be limited to 1 model Nvidia card.

BTW, my desktop computer with EVGA 8800 GTX does NOT have these issues running same version RC7 64 installed from the same disk.

thanks guys, i think i may have a vid. card issue on my hands too ... i just went back to XP where i had been previous to 7 and same issue... unless it is just teh 186.18 / 190.15 drivers altogether... installing a 182 version see how that goes... if not i have a GTX 260 Maxcore BFG lined up with a buddy of mine for a test...
