I need to reinstall OS after an upgrade of motherboard/cpu and I have no physical copy to do so. However, my friend has a Windows 10 usb for windows 10 pro, but I own windows 10 home. Can I use his usb to boot off of or do I need to burn my own iso?

Depends, did you purchase a Windows 10 license or did it come with the computer? What is the make/model of the computer.

I had windows 7, bought windows 10 off of the windows store and downloaded the intaller and let it do its thing. I have tied my account to my digital license. I have a PC so it's custom build.

Then you should be good. Pro and home are the same installer media.

Worst thing that may happen is you call Microsoft to reactivate. Just tell them you need to replace the board after the last one failed.
