Problem:
Certain programs loose focus (freecell, NoMachine NX client for windows)
Windows Updates fail, unless I visit the Microsoft page and download and install updates manually

I'm not sure why certain applications loose focus. I've been looking for a solution, but everything I have read has said look for a program that takes the focus. I can't seem to find any program that does take the focus, I am now stumped.

I first noticed the problem after installing and cleaning my computer with Uniblue Powersuite 2009 (SpeedUpMyPC 2009, RegistryBooster 2009, and DriverScanner 2009). I am not sure if the registry cleanup or other cleanups performed by this program caused the problem, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to mention it.

Any help would be amazing, since I use the NoMachine NX client (remote desktop application) to connect to my schools labs.

(also windows update fails - but this may be unrelated and is not a very big concern for me)

Thank You in advance

Here is a link to a youtube (20 sec) clip of the problem in action!!!

It seems like you are encountering a couple of issues with your Windows 7 Professional system, particularly related to programs losing focus and Windows Updates failing unless installed manually. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve these issues:

Programs Losing Focus:

  1. Check for Background Processes:
    • Use Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) to see if any background processes are consuming resources or causing the focus shift.
    []Disable Startup Programs:
    • Open "msconfig" (Windows Key + R, then type "msconfig") and disable unnecessary startup programs.

    ]Check Task Scheduler:
    • Review Task Scheduler tasks for any automated tasks that might be causing the issue.
    []Update Drivers:
    • Ensure all drivers are up to date, especially graphics and input device drivers.
    [
    ]Disable Unnecessary Services:
    • Disable services that are not essential and might be conflicting with your applications.

      Windows Update Issues:

    []Manually Download Updates:
    • Since Windows Updates are failing automatically, try downloading and installing updates manually from the Microsoft Update Catalog.
    [
    ]Check Windows Update Troubleshooter:
    • Run the built-in Windows Update Troubleshooter to diagnose and fix common update issues.
  2. Reset Windows Update Components:
    • A corrupted Windows Update component might be causing the problem. Resetting these components can sometimes resolve update issues.

      Additional Steps:

    • Registry Cleanup:
    • It's possible that the registry cleanup performed by Uniblue Powersuite 2009 caused conflicts. Consider restoring the registry to a previous state or performing a system restore.
    • System File Checker (SFC):
    • Run the SFC tool to scan and repair corrupted system files that might be impacting performance.
    • Security Software Check:
    • Make sure your antivirus software is up to date and perform a full system scan to rule out malware. By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issues you are facing with programs losing focus and Windows Updates failing on your Windows 7 Professional system. Let me know if you need more specific guidance on any of these steps!
