I have an Asus 1005ha netbook running Windows 7 starter that connects fine to my airport express network. The netbook finds my Canon iP5000 printer (which is connected via USB to my imac). I am quite sure that all of the settings on the mac are good as I can print from a Macbook . I have updated the driver which shows up, but I can not print.

Found another suggested fix that has me printing through the LPR port monitor. The directions say "...open Print and Document Services item and then enable the LPR Port Monitor item..." but I fo not show a LPR port in my print and document services folder.

I have also tried setting it up through Bonjour for Windows. The program loads and the wizard detects both the imac computer and printer. However, when I click Finish the error message reads "You do not have sufficient access to connect to this printer". Any ideas on what I need for access??

Any help with the this problem, or any other solutions would be appreciated. I am a lifle long Mac guy that is questioning my foray into the Windows world...please help.

[]If the LPR Port Monitor is not available, you might need to install the feature:
      • Go back to "Turn Windows features on or off" and enable the LPR Port Monitor option.
      [
]After enabling LPR, you should be able to add the printer using the LPR protocol.

Issue 2: Insufficient Access with Bonjour for Windows

    []Insufficient Access Error:
    • When setting up through Bonjour for Windows, you encounter an error stating "You do not have sufficient access to connect to this printer."
    Solution:
    • This error message typically indicates a permissions issue. To resolve this:
      • Make sure the printer sharing settings on the iMac allow access to other devices on the network.
      • Ensure that the printer is set to be shared and accessible.
      • Check the sharing permissions on the iMac for network sharing.
      • You may need to adjust the sharing settings for the printer to allow other devices to connect.

        Additional Solutions:

    [
    ]Network Troubleshooting:
    • Verify that both the iMac and the Windows 7 netbook are on the same network and subnet.
    • Check if any firewall settings are blocking the printer access.
  2. Alternative Connection Methods:
    • Consider using a direct IP printer connection if the above methods don't work.
    • You can also try installing the Canon iP5000 printer directly on the Windows 7 netbook via its own drivers. If you continue to face issues after trying these steps, feel free to provide more details for further assistance. Windows can indeed be different from macOS, but with the right setup, you should be able to print from your Windows 7 netbook successfully.
