Am I correct in thinking that MS is not going to release andy bug fixes for the RC? or Builds? Other than their just testing the update procces? Other than a Windows Defender update:confused:, and 5 or 6 Driver updates, I've not seen anything other than the first time I updated.

wow. Apparently nobody knows the answer to this! I'm use to a prety agressive update cycle from my experinces with Ubuntu. Most problems in Alpha and Beta releases is something like 2 or 3 days. This isn't the cases with some bugs, but most of them.

Other than drivers and defender, I suspect they're spending their time finishing Windows7 so they can sell it.

Unfortunatly, that is a good way to kill any enthusiasm about the product. Potential buyers have no idea if the finished product is going to work on thier system. Right now, with all the things I find wrong in OS, I REALLY would call it Vista 2. As a someone who fixes the OS for people,, I would advise people to wait for SP1 before upgrading. Lack of drivers, recurrrant and persistant bugs, incompatibi;lity with many programs. Sure smells like Vista Part 2.

When you View installed updates with the (KB, these are the patches released so far.

For compatible hardware, don't you think if you buy a pre-build machine with Windows 7 pre-installed it's not going to work? Yea, that would go over welll. Hogwash!

As for building your own, do some research. Simple as that.

Then what is the point of publishing the requirements for Win 7, and touting it can run on systems with 128 Video memory, I GHz processor, and I Gig memory???
Or releasing a WIN 7 compatability (howbit a beta) test program? I find your reasoning flawed on this one.

None of the things you listed has to do with 'supposed' minimum requirements. Your post mentions nothing about hardware.

Microsoft can't make a claim that hardware will work.

The individual companies will need to write their own drivers. Same thing happened when moving from XP to Vista.

    Confused?

So the 1 Gig memory, 128 Meg Video ram, and 1GHz published list by MS is not the minimum requirements for running Win 7??
And the info provided by the Win 7 Compaitbility don't at least insure a least a good canidate for win 7?

You mean MS would lie about it??(tongue in cheek)

And since when is Video memory, gigahertz, and ram NOT hardware??????

    Taken from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/faq.aspx

These are the Microsoft minimum hardware recommendations for systems that will be running the RC. These recommendations are specific to this release and are subject to change.
    Windows 7 RC system requirements:
    • 1 GHz or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
    • 1 GB RAM (32-bit) / 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
    • 16 GB available disk space (32-bit) / 20 GB (64-bit)
    • DirectX 9 graphics processor with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
So this is not final, but does apply to the RC.

    gjbnh,

I looked over all you previous posts and you've had about 8 complaints already regarding Windows 7.

Are you still using the newer leaked build or the official RC?

Those are specifications, not hardware per se.

sound cards, video cards (not video memory. network adapters, CD/DVD Roms, monitors, hard disk drives

this is hardware......made by many manufacturers.

There is no sense in bickering over any more and will not post again.

Don't like Windows 7, then go back to whatever you're using previously

Sorry Radenight, didn't mean to overlook you, I was just a little ticked, when I hear all these complaints about Windows7.. GEEZ, I hope they come out with a new book called Windows 7 for Dummies:rolleyes:.

I have used both builds, and have had the same problems with both. Some of the problems I've traced to KAV being a beta biuld, but both builds have suffered from the same problems. Hangs, not being able to consistantly install third party programs, problems waking from sleep/hibernation, consistant shutdown problems. As I've stated, I know these are test builds, and I fully expect there to be glitches. I guess I was expecting a more agressive approach by MS to fixes, updates, based on my experience with Ubuntu. So far thu, this paraells my experince with Vista pre-realse builds and the final product. I REALLY want this to succed, but I'm a bit fustrated that MS seems to be shooting itself in the foot. Time to just sit back and take a deep breath I guess lol. In the end it will be what it is.

Has it not occured to you the reason there are 'little' in the way of updates, and 'fixes' for the Release Candidate Build 7100 is that they've already 'done' the majority of the work in that area; manufacturers of hardware & software have this time beenworking to provide updated or new drivers for use with Win7.

The premise with Win7 was also to be 'compatible' with Hardware/Software currently in use on the Vista platform. Therefore, unless the manufacuturers themselves have been 'slow' to keep their drivers updated for Vista ( and some have), there won't be that many 'updates' necessary for Win7.

That's not to say there won't be updates in the future, there will be ; but they will be issued as an when MS or Manufacturers have some to offer.

But as 'Beta' and RC's go, this is as near complete and certainly stable as I've ever experienced. If you' ve built your own system, then the onus must be on you to ensure it is configured properly. Starting with your Mobo, and BIOS settings, and individual Hardware/Software configurations. The problems you describe are not widely reported as something that's been consistently experienced by the majority of Beta testers. If they were, they would have 'fixed' it by now.

This also assumes you've been using officially sourced Beta builds, and not material from 'torrents'; you can't guarantee that 'torrent' source builds aren't compromised in some way.

Agreed, with one modification. I think you can possibly be lucky with torrent downloads, but axiomatically, these are "builds", not offical releases to the public. (Of which there have only been 2). There is little purpose in reporting, or trying to solve, bugs in such leaks.

Correct. If you study the magnitude of posts on forums such as this, you will find that 1. They tend to be repeats of the same fault/bug, mostly caused by an understandable lack of knowledge of the new OS and its workings or, 2. Related to very specific, and usually, hardware, problems, or specialised software.

As always, I continue to read as much as I can on these issues. While there is high praise for Win 7 on the boards I monitor, about 40 % of those posting have one or more issues. Some have become so disgusted with their experince that they have sworn off Win 7 completely making comparisons to Vista. Many, like me, think that unless something drastic happens between now and RTM, are gonna wait for SP1. what is it they say about first impressions? Your points about drivers is well taken, and parrells what the developers have said, so from MS's standpoint, they are right on target. But given the problems that are turning people off, they may want to re-think thier methodology here. The world, it is a-changing.

GEEZ, I hope they come out with a new book called Arrogant People who think their Super Pro:rolleyes:

Is this not a place to share feedback and ask for support? Not a place to sound like an arrogant prick with a "Dont like Windows 7, Fuck off" attitude, I'm shocked tbh.

and gjbnh, I have to agree, Its not as bad as Vista was but I dont beleive it is ready for release, Maybe an RC based on what I've seen I cant even get it to install, Microsoft is kind of running but they should be jogging. Until Windows XP is the perfect balanace, All the programs I've ever wanted run, It runs fast but I'm looking for more, I'm bored of the same old workings and look. I want something new like Windows 98 - Windows XP and I think Windows 7 could be that but it seems anything Microsoft and EA releases has its fair share of bugs and what now. I know EA is un related but they just ticked me off latley ^^ Lets hope they polish it off enough so it doesnt become another "fuck this, Back to XP" story.
