Hello
I have decided to use optical cable for my audio from the nForce 780i SLI FTW motherboard onto my logitech speakers Z-5500 Digital set.
The problem I have is that nowhere in the config, under the Realtek or Windows, does it allow me to select Optical output, it only points to Digital Coax output, but the motherboard does not have that.

At this point, using the regular cables (green, black, orange) I can get the sound, but I would love to enjoy DTS coming out of the BluRay movies I watch on my PC.

Any suggestions will be welcome kindly

Thank you
Mark

Ps I am using Windows 7 Ultimate, and the drivers are working, I do get sound out of the 3 cables.

    Update Drivers:

  2. Update Motherboard Drivers: Ensure that you have the latest drivers installed for your motherboard. Sometimes, updated...
Hello Mark, It sounds like you are facing an issue with configuring your audio setup to use an optical connection on your nForce 780i SLI FTW motherboard with the Logitech Z-5500 Digital speakers set. Here are some suggestions to help you enable optical output for better audio quality and DTS playback:

Check BIOS Settings:

  1. Ensure Optical Output is Enabled: Sometimes, the option to enable optical output might be present in the BIOS settings of your motherboard. Check the motherboard manual or access the BIOS to see if there's an option to enable optical audio output.

    Update Drivers:

  2. Update Motherboard Drivers: Ensure that you have the latest drivers installed for your motherboard. Sometimes, updated drivers add additional features or fix compatibility issues. You can download the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website.

    Software Configuration:

  3. Check Audio Settings in Windows:
    • Right-click on the sound icon in the system tray and select "Playback Devices."
    • Look for the optical output device and set it as the default playback device.
    • If the optical output is not visible, it might be a driver-related issue. Make sure you have the correct drivers installed.

      Audio Configuration:

[]Use Third-Party Software: If you are unable to configure the optical output using Windows settings, you can try using third-party audio management software that may offer more options for audio output settings.

    Troubleshooting:

]Troubleshoot Hardware: Ensure that the optical cable is connected correctly to both the motherboard and the speakers. Try using a different optical cable to rule out any cable issues.

    Additional Considerations:

    • Compatibility: Verify that the optical input on your Logitech Z-5500 Digital speakers is working properly and supports the audio format you are trying to output.
    • DTS Support: Make sure that the audio source (Blu-ray player software, media player, etc.) and your speakers support DTS encoding and decoding.
By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and configure your audio setup to utilize the optical connection and enjoy DTS audio from your Blu-ray movies. If you encounter any further difficulties, feel free to provide more details for additional assistance.
