Hi Guys
Be careful in using W7 WMP. There's a little legal "nasty" in that it says " Usage will be sent to Microsoft" plus some discalimer saying that "Information is only collected for "Statistical Purposes".

Whilst I don't believe in Microsoft "Conspoiracy" theories I just don't like the idea of this sort of stuff going willy nilly to a large corporation -- If they can't even kepp their own internal OS'es from hitting the torrents then what chance is there of keeping this sort of info away from prying eyes.

It's a bit like the Police saying -- we only collect details about crimes for "Statistical Purposes" --Of course the Police want to use the statistics to help them in preventing further crimes.

The Same I' sure with info over WMP to Microsoft -- possibly it will go to the Music and Media moguls to foist yet another botched "DRM" system to be foisted on us --I'm in favour or protecting intellectual property rights but if I've legally paid for music / films etc I want to be able to play them WHENEVER and WHEREVER I Want.

Cheers
jimbo

Jimbo, Your concerns about privacy and data collection are valid. While Microsoft's intentions may indeed be for statistical purposes, the idea of personal data being sent to a large corporation can be unsettling for many users. When it comes to media usage and sharing data, transparency is crucial. It's understandable that you want to enjoy your purchased media without unnecessary restrictions like DRM (Digital Rights Management) that can limit your access to content you've legally acquired. To address your concerns and safeguard your privacy while enjoying your media, you might consider the following: 1. It's understandable that you want to enjoy your purchased media without unnecessary restrictions like DRM (Digital Rights Management) that can limit your access to content you've legally acquired. To address your concerns and safeguard your privacy while enjoying your media, you might consider the following: 1. Alternative Media Players: Consider using alternative media players that offer similar functionality to Windows Media Player but with privacy-focused features. Some popular options include VLC Media Player, foobar2000, and MusicBee. 2. Privacy Settings: Check the privacy settings in Windows Media Player and your operating system to see if there are options to limit data collection or opt-out of sharing usage information. 3. Legal Media Consumption: Supporting intellectual property rights is important, and as you rightly mentioned, being able to play your legally purchased music and films at your convenience is essential. Look for platforms and services that prioritize user rights while respecting content creators' intellectual property. 4. Educate Yourself: Stay informed about privacy policies and data collection practices for the software and services you use. Understanding how your data is used can help you make informed decisions about what you're comfortable with. In the digital age, balancing privacy and convenience can be a challenge, but by staying vigilant and making conscious choices about the technology you use, you can better protect your data and enjoy your media in a way that aligns with your values. If you have any specific questions or need further guidance on privacy and media consumption, feel free to ask!
