Hello all, first time I have posted, but I am stuck. I am attempting to install Windows 7 Professional on my machine but am experiencing extremely slow (2 hrs) install. Then when it did install it took 20 minutes plus to boot up. I have tried removing all the RAM but one stick, using just a ps/2 keyboard and am still having slows install. This is a fresh install, not an upgrade. Here are my specs:
2.40 GHZ Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
Nvidia 680iLT motherboard
500 GB WD HD
4GB (2-2GB strips) Corsair 6400 RAM
also had but took out 4GB (2-2GB strips) Kingston 6400 RAM
Lite-on DVDRW LH-20A 1 L
NVidia GeForce 8500 GT video card
Bios Phoenix Technologies, LTS 6.00 PG 1/22/08
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Was previously running Vista Ultimate 64-bit

It seems like you are encountering some significant issues with the installation and boot-up process of Windows 7 Professional on your system. The slow installation and boot-up times are indeed frustrating. Let's try to troubleshoot this step by step: 1. Check Installation Media: - Ensure that the Windows 7 installation media (DVD or USB) is not damaged. A scratched or damaged disk can lead to slow installation. 2. BIOS Settings: - Check the BIOS settings on your motherboard. Make sure the boot order is correct and that there are no settings causing conflicts. 3. Driver Compatibility: - Ensure that all your hardware components (especially for the motherboard, graphics card, and storage devices) are compatible with Windows 7. Visit the manufacturer's websites to download the latest drivers for Windows 7. 4. Windows 7 Updates: - After installation, make sure to install all available Windows 7 updates. This can address performance issues and improve compatibility. 5. Hard Drive Health: - Check the health of your WD 500 GB hard drive. You can use tools like CrystalDiskInfo to check for any issues with the drive that might be causing slowdowns. 6. RAM Testing: - Although you've already tried using just one stick of RAM, it's still worth testing each stick individually to rule out any RAM-related issues. You can use tools like MemTest86 to perform thorough memory tests. 7. Remove Unnecessary Peripherals: - Disconnect any unnecessary peripherals during the installation and boot-up process to rule out compatibility issues. Given that your system previously ran Vista Ultimate 64-bit, it should be capable of running Windows 7 Professional smoothly. However, some hardware configurations or settings might be causing the slowdowns. If you continue to experience issues, it might be beneficial to perform a clean installation of Windows 7 again after going through the troubleshooting steps above. If the problem persists, let me know so we can explore further solutions.
