I have a desktop connected to a modem/router and a laptop connected wireless.

I cannot print from my laptop unless I go to my desktop and "wakening" it up!

Does anyone know how to fix this or "Wake Up" my desktop remotely?

Solution
To fix the issue of not being able to print from your laptop unless you manually wake up your desktop, you can enable Wake-on-LAN (WoL) on your desktop. Wake-on-LAN is a network standard that allows you to remotely wake up a sleeping or powered-off computer over a network. Here's how you can set up Wake-on-LAN to remotely wake up your desktop from your laptop:

Steps to Enable Wake-on-LAN on Your Desktop:

  1. Check Motherboard Compatibility: Ensure that your desktop's motherboard, network adapter, and BIOS support Wake-on-LAN.
  2. Enable Wake-on-LAN in BIOS/UEFI:
    • Restart your desktop and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing a key like DEL, F2, F10, or F12 during startup).

    • Look for a setting related to Wake-on-LAN and enable it. Save the changes and exit the BIOS/UEFI.
    []Configure Network Adapter Settings:
    • Go to your desktop's Control Panel.
    • Click on "Network and Sharing Center."
    • Click on your network connection and then on "Properties."
    • Find the network adapter, right-click on it, and select "Properties."
    • Go to the "Power Management" tab and check the option that says "Allow this device to wake the computer."
    [
    ]Find Your Desktop's MAC Address:
    • Open Command Prompt on your desktop.
    • Type ipconfig /all and press Enter.
    • Look for the "Physical Address" under the network adapter you are using. This is your MAC address.
[]Use a WoL Tool or App:
    • Install a Wake-on-LAN tool or app on your laptop (there are various free and paid options available).
    • Enter your desktop's MAC address and IP address into the tool/app.
    [
    ]Send the Wake-on-LAN Packet:
    • From your laptop, use the Wake-on-LAN tool to send a WoL magic packet to your desktop's IP address.
    • This packet will wake up your desktop, allowing you to print from your laptop without physically waking it up. By following these steps and using a Wake-on-LAN tool, you should be able to remotely wake up your desktop from your laptop and print without the need to physically interact with the desktop each time. If you encounter any issues during this process, feel free to ask for further assistance!
