Windows 7 BSOD Help Please

Hi,
most of your dump files are memory related and indeed the above Bugcheck means a severe Memory management error took place. Looking at your system though I see your Bios isn't up to date and several of the updates are stability related with one specifically for Memory stability.

Latest update stands at version 2303:

Driver wise you could do with updating really but none seem desperately old.

If after making the above changes you still get the bsod then you need to test your RAM.
Windows does have it's own memory testing app but it can often miss errors and the best app for the job is Memtest86. The latest version of which can be found here:
http://www.memtest.org/

To run Memtest86 you need to either burn a copy of it to disk or use a USB stick. If you look down the page you'll eventually find the latest version and it's associated downloads. If your burning to disk choose the pre-compiled iso zip. If your using a USB method then the corresponding download is the auto installer for a USB stick.
Once you have Memtest86 on the media you selected you'll then need to enter your bios and change the boot order so that the machine will boot from either the disk or stick you have Memtest86 on.
Try and run the test for 12hrs min unless it becomes clear that there is a issue. If there is a problem with the RAM you'll see the errors pop up in red so you can't miss them.

Post any new dump files.

I am working my way through the updates you suggest but have a problem with the BIOS update. The PC was bought overclocked as standard. I've read about BIOS updates and I understand the overclocking aspect will be lost with a BIOS update and I shouldn't update the BIOS in an overclocked condition either.

Is the BIOS update necessary or could I leave that part out for now?

Hi Stephen,
you might have a few options in this regard. Sometimes bios settings can be saved as a profile meaning you could reapply the profile after any update. Also usually pre-overclocked machines are sold by specialist manufacturers, do they have any tech support such as an online webpage with your models spec's ect?
Lastly you could always leave it as a last proposition. Try everything else on the list first and see how you go. Ideally though it's always best to be on the latest Bios (usually).

Hi,

I found the realtek driver updates almost impossible to fathom so left them alone. I spent a good hour or so trying to work them out but couldn't.

So I went on to the memtest which I had run before successfully but this time it failed instantly. Left it to run overnight. I have yet to do much reading on this subject. I'm assuming this now means I should isolate one of the RAM modules and repeat and then swap the other one over. Is that right? Is there anything that might point me to a dump file or result file?
