I upgraded my laptop to windows 10 and was quite happy with it until my desktop icons disappeared and the tiles that you saw when clicking on the start button that were small suddenly became big like windows 8 and took over the whole screen! How can I get it back to when it first installed?

Managed to find the problem myself  My laptop had converted to touch screen. It is not a touch screen so that's why I lost my icons. Changed it and all is good :chuncky:
