Hi - I'm new to the Forum and not sure if this is the right place to post this but here goes. I understand that unlike XP Pro, Win 7 Pro 32bit can handle up to 20 computers in a workgroup. I'd like to run it on a moderately high end dedicated workstation as a data server with 15 workstations...
Hi, I have done searches for this, but everything just seems to point to basic folder sharing :frown:
I have 4 computers on a LAN (workgroup), one of them is a "server". All are running W7 Ultimate.
I want to make a folder on the server shared only to MY computer account, so that nobody else...

Hi all,
I started using Win 7 about a month ago and initially everything worked fine with getting on our network at work and accessing other computers, a mixture of Win 7 and XP. Everyone uses a cable connection and fixed IP address. A couple of days ago I was at another office and needed to...

I'm running 64Bit Windows 7 Ultimate using IPv4 and want to map a network drive to my Windows 2008 server.
I've tried both mapping to the "default admin shares" i.e. C$, D$ as well as creating my own shares with full access rights to the "administrators group" to which I belong.
However...
I am trying to add my Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit computer to an existing network that has XP computers. I have the workgroup of all computers set the same. I have network discovery on, file and printer sharing, 128 bit encription set, password protection off and use user accts and passwords...
This laptop can access the internet and ping itself and the gateway, but can't ping other computers on the network. I am not using "HomeGroup" nor do I wish to. I had VMWare Workstation 7 and Comodo Internet Security 5 installed, but have since uninstalled them. I have the windows firewall...
I have 4 computers and a QNAP TS-209 NAS in a WorkGroup environment. Two of the Windows 7 computers see everything - the 3 Windows 7 computers, the Windows XP computer, the TS-209 and the OKI C5100N printer. One of the Windows 7 computers only sees other Windows 7 computers (just as if it were in...

I have a pre-Vista Win desktop and a Win7-64 (HP OEM) desktop at home. ATT DSL, 2-Wire router/gateway, all hardwired.
Nobody uses this stuff but me. I've gone to a lot of trouble to set up a Workgroup definition and a shared folder for the 2 pc's (more than once). Got it working. Then the Win7...
I have 3 or more system on my home network. 2 are W7, 1 is XP.

I have spent days trying to solve this problem - so any suggestions will be most gratefully received! I run a group of Windows XP Professional (SP3, 32 bit) machines in a workgroup, all using the same id and password, the id being in the administrators group on each machine. One of the...
Hello, I've tried searching the plentiful problematic posts, but I cannot find my exact dilemma. When it comes to networking, I'm as lucky as the man who played Russian Roulette with a loaded glock. Nothing ever goes my way.

All,
Not really happy with W7 security because you can not see computers that are not in your homegroup.
I have several laptops that must connect into 3 seperate LAN groups and each have different Domain/Workgroup names.
How do I do this is W7?
This was easy in XP (our corp standard)...
