Hello bonbontintin,

100% disk is likely referring to your hard disk/ hard drive. It means you've run out of storage space. You should delete at least 10-15% of your files that are taking up your hard drive space as soon as you can to give your hard disk some relief. This can usually be found by heading to Start menu > File Explorer > This PC > OS C:/ drive.

Do you have a lot of movies, music, etc. on the computer? If so try deleting some of those files and it should solve your problem.

If you mean 100% disk usage then that can be caused by a lot of different reasons. The most common being malware, buggy or corrupt software/OS components.

  • Try booting into safe mode and see if the issue continues
  • Also try running sfc /scannow and chkdsk C: /R
You can also download procexp Process Explorer - Windows Sysinternals and enable the disk IO column. That should at least tell you what process and even particular thread causing the high disk IO

One of the reasons I have seen, is an under dimensioned system, specifically a lack of memory. If this is true for your system some maintenance task will take endlessly. Try to leaving it alone for say 15 minutes and see if cools down. Then you have an indication that you have to upgrade.
