Windows 7 Access denied to administrator in CMD window

I am using the only account in my Win 7 system, which is an Administrator acct. When I open the CMD window (right click - use as administrator, just to be sure) and type chkdsk I am denied access and told to "invoke this utility running in administrator mode," but it already is in that mode, as shown in the window title. The only change since I last tried this was a Windows reinstall, courtesy of Microsoft tech support. Has anyone any thoughts on this?

I just opened my Admin Command windows and typed chkdsk /? and it shows the help section. What chkdsk command were you using?

It may not run until the system is rebooting if you are working on the OS partition.

You could try using the tools tab of the Computer dialog for a specific partition.
