Windows 7 After installing windows 7 on a windows XP laptop, my cd drive doesn't work

My laptop ran windows XP, and i used the windows 7 compatibility software to see if windows 7 can work with my laptop and it was approved. Long story short after i installed windows 7 i installed all the drivers the sony esupport told me to, however my CD drive isn't working. when i go to the device manager and click on its properties i get the following error message
"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"
I tried uninstalling the driver and restarting and that didn't fix the problem either.
