In Windows XP I have much more flexibility with the number of screen resolution including refresh rates than I do with Windows 7.

In Windows XP, I can use the inf file provided with the monitor to update the driver.

Alas, this is not possible with Windows 7 as it doesn't recognise the inf file as a driver.

I've searched in vain for a solution to this.

Any one have any ideas on how to restore the missing screen resolutions & refresh rates under Windows 7.

Solution
It seems like you are encountering limitations in adjusting screen resolutions and refresh rates on Windows 7 compared to Windows XP, especially in terms of using an INF file to update the monitor driver. Here are some steps you can try to restore missing screen resolutions and refresh rates in Windows 7: 1. Update Graphics Drivers: - Ensure your graphics card drivers are up to date. Sometimes, updating the graphics driver can provide additional resolution options. You can check the manufacturer's website for the latest driver updates. 2. Monitor Driver Installation: - If Windows 7 is not recognizing the INF file for your monitor, you can try manually installing the monitor driver: - Right-click on the desktop and select...

Monitor Driver Installation: - If Windows 7 is not recognizing the INF file for your monitor, you can try manually installing the monitor driver: - Right-click on the desktop and select "Screen resolution." - Click on "Advanced settings." - Go to the "Monitor" tab and click "Properties." - Select "Driver" and then "Update Driver." - Choose "Browse my computer for driver software" and then select the folder where the INF file is located. 3. Custom Resolution Utility: - You can use third-party tools like "Custom Resolution Utility" to add custom resolutions and refresh rates. This tool allows you to create detailed resolutions beyond what Windows usually provides. 4. Check Hardware Compatibility: - Ensure that your monitor and graphics card support the resolutions and refresh rates you are trying to set. Incompatible hardware may limit the available options. 5. Advanced Display Settings: - In Windows 7, you can navigate to "Control Panel" > "Appearance and Personalization" > "Display" > "Screen resolution" to adjust the settings. You might find additional options by clicking on "Advanced settings." 6. Driver Signature Enforcement: - If you continue to experience issues with installing the monitor driver, you can try temporarily disabling driver signature enforcement. This can sometimes allow you to install unsigned drivers. By following these steps, you should be able to restore missing screen resolutions and refresh rates in Windows 7. If you encounter any specific error messages or difficulties during the process, feel free to provide more details for further assistance.
