Windows 7 BSOD When playing Graphically intense games

Hi I know this may be a long read but I hope you'll read it since I tried to get as much detail about my problem in it as possible. Thank you. my Specs are at the bottom if you wish to read them first.

I recently upgraded my GPU and I have been playing games rather intensely since I got it.

The BSOD first appeared playing Skyrim where the game would freeze (and the rest of the PC) but the audio would continue. this freeze lasted about a minute and the computer BSOD'd after that when playing skyrim the freezing would happen and occasionally the game would continue... this is strange because I was able to get through the entire tomb raider story with only one crash (Though I think this was due to over heating and while watching the heat it never happened again) also the crashes occur without any heat building up. and using a head monitor the GPU peaked at 64C and the CPU at around 45C playing skyrim

Now any game I play (such as hitman, just cause 2, and skyrim) I can get at MOST 20-30 minutes before it crashes with a BSOD.

I'v checked my driver and used sweeper to uninstall and install the latest beta (Catalyst 3.3 I think)
I've ran disk checks with no errors and defragmented my HDD.
and any other solution I could find.... (Excluding windows repair as I can not currently find my W7 disk)

I also ran bluescreen view and the files marked in read were:
"ntoskrnl.exe" this was highlighted every time and I understand it to be the OS.
"AtihdW76.sys" this only occurred on the first recorded crash (there have been 10 so far recorded)
"Ntfs.sys" this one has only occurred once on the second last time so far.

one other thing I noticed was a strange sound coming from my case just before it happens... At first i believed it to be hard drive clicking but it is much quieter and sound like what can only be described as the sound made when the light turns on when your electric oven or fryer heats up (Though I don't know if that'll help.)

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
CPU: FX 4170 (Quaud 4.2GHz)
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 7950 DD Edition
MotherBoard: Asus M5A78L-M/USB3
RAM: 8GB DDR3 1333MHz
PSU: I don't actually know the brand or rail but I know its 750w and I think its 12v

[EDIT]: I forgot to mention that I've never got the BSOD except for playing intensive games.... everything else is fine when on desktop or playing less intensive games like minecraft... though I did freeze up playing Darksiders 2 a few times but it has recovered and didn't crash.

If you've been able to get through Tomb Raider - I'm jealous. I'm stuck at Shantytown!
Seriously tho', we've seen a lot of issues with SkyRim recently.

First, try following this procedure to install the DRIVERS ONLY for your video card: ATI video cards - DRIVER ONLY installation procedure - Sysnative Forums

SP1 isn't installed, please do the following:

Installing Windows 7 Service Pack 1
1. Visit the PC manufacturer's website and update ALL drivers. DO NOT use Windows Update or the "Update drivers" function of Device Manager.
2. Check Device Manager for any unknown/disabled devices - if there are unknown/disabled devices, fix them with the latest drivers from the device manufacturer's website (not the PC Manufacturer)
3. Visit Windows Update and get all updates (may take repeated visits)
4. Visit Windows Update and get Service Pack 1 (usually under Important Updates). Read these notes for installing SP1: Steps to follow before you install Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 from the Microsoft Download Center
5. Visit Windows Update and get any other available updates. May take repeated visits, but keep it up until you get several "Windows is updated" results.

I have had limited success in installing updates/Service Packs when using a "clean boot". I suspect that I'm just bypassing the problem - and that it can come back to bite me in the butt later on.

C: drive only has about 7% free space. Windows likes 15% free space in order to perform stuff "behind the scenes" without adversely affecting the system's performance. Please free up 15% on ALL hard drives (you can get away with 10% on larger drives and won't notice a large performance penalty)

Your ASMEDIA USB Controller isn't installed. Please download and install the drivers from the Asus website.

Several errors pointing at the hard drive. Please run these free diagnostics: Hard Drive Diagnostic Procedure

You have the 2005 version of the Asus ATK0110 ACPI Utility driver (ASACPI.sys) installed. This is a known cause of BSOD's on some Asus systems. Download and install the latest version from the Asus website (most likely a 2009 version and it's usually located in the ATK or Utility sections). Post back if you can't locate it.

AMD OverDrive (AODDriver2.sys) is either a stand-alone application, or a component of the AMD VISION Engine Control Center. This driver is known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems.

Please un-install all AMD/ATI video stuff from Control Panel...Programs...Un-install a program
Then, download (but DO NOT install) a fresh copy of the ATI drivers from Global Provider of Innovative Graphics, Processors and Media Solutions | AMD (in the upper right corner of the page)
Use this procedure to install the DRIVER ONLY: ATI video cards - DRIVER ONLY installation procedure - Sysnative Forums

If the device (AODDriver or AODDriver4.01) remains a problem, open Device Manager, select the "View" item.
Then select "Show hidden devices" and scroll down to the Non-Plug and Play Drivers section.
Locate the AODDriver entry, right click on it and select "Un-install". Reboot for changes to take affect.

Sometimes the driver remains and continues to cause BSOD's. If this is the case for you, post back and we'll give further instructions for safely removing it.

If overclocking, please stop. Remove the overclock and return the system to stock/standard values while we're troubleshooting. Once the system is stable again, feel free to resume the overclocking.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Who thanks for the glorious feedback and the load of suggestions it's gonna take me a while to get through all of it but I'll get back to you as soon as I can with any results or questions.

Hey, thanks for all the great suggestions and I really appreciate it, though something went wrong uninstalling my drivers and I'm pretty sure I uninstalled my chipset driver wrongly and started BSOD on boot up. I tried to reinstall it on safe mode but it didn't work and I just gave up and did a full re-install of windows... fully updated it and freshly installed my drivers to ensure there wouldn't be a collision of any kind and tried playing games again and the problem persists. This is leading me to believe it may in fact be a hardware problem as I noticed the clicking sound coming from my case is getting more intense just before the freezes. (I think this because I don't use disks and they run straight from my hard drive)

Though while looking at hard drive clicking videos on youtube it seems that they clicked repeatedly then shut down unlike mine. I'm wondering if you know if hard drive clicking starts to happen occasionally and causes blue screens before getting worse or is it just straight away clicking then shut down?
My brother also mentioned that it may be a power supply issue and it's failing to power my GPU.

Thanks for the help and I would really love a suggestion from you on this before I go and buy a replacement.

Run these free hard drive diagnostics on ALL hard drives: Hard Drive Diagnostic Procedure
These are the most accurate tests for a failing hard drive.

Clicking in a hard drive can be caused by several different things. The memory dumps are suggestive of a hard drive failure. The clicking that increases before the freeze/crash is (IMO) suggestive of a hard drive problem where the hard drive has a problem and is trying frantically to verify that it has the right data (so the thing making the clicking noise is double/triple/etc checking the data).

Sometimes buying new parts is the only way to test - but don't start that just yet.
FWIW - if you do buy new parts, buy them from a store that'll let you return them and get your money back if you don't need them.
