Hello All,

I tried using my CD-ROM Drive, which would not read any of my cd's. I looked in the Device manager, where I found the following error message under CD-ROM drive:

Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)

I've tried to enter "bcdedit.exe -set TESTSIGNING ON" in the command prompt, but my cd drive still does not work. What else can I do? Does having ITunes create that problem, as I have heard that before?

It seems like you're encountering an issue with your CD-ROM Drive due to a digital signature verification problem, indicated by error code 52 in Device Manager. This error typically occurs when Windows is unable to verify the digital signature of the drivers required for the hardware. Attempting to bypass driver signature enforcement using "bcdedit.exe -set TESTSIGNING ON" is a common troubleshooting step, but if it didn't resolve the issue, there are a few more steps you can try:

Additional Steps to Resolve CD-ROM Drive Issue (Code 52):

  1. Check Driver Status:
    • Go to Device Manager, right-click on the CD-ROM Drive, and select "Update driver."
    • Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software."

    • If Windows does not find a newer driver, consider reinstalling the driver manually.
    []Reinstall CD-ROM Drive Driver:
    • Uninstall the CD-ROM drive from Device Manager.
    • Restart your computer to allow Windows to reinstall the driver automatically.
    • Check if the drive works once the driver is reinstalled.
    [
    ]Update Windows:
    • Make sure your Windows system is up to date by installing any pending Windows updates.
    []iTunes and CD Drive Conflict:
    • Yes, iTunes or Apple-related software installations can sometimes affect optical drives. If you recently installed iTunes, there might be a potential conflict.
    • Try uninstalling iTunes temporarily to see if the CD drive starts working.
    [
    ]Check for Malware:
    • Conduct a full system malware scan to ensure that your system is free from any potential threats.
  2. Test on Another Computer:
    • If possible, test the CD drive on another computer to determine if the issue is specific to your system. If after trying these steps the issue persists, it could indicate a hardware problem with the CD-ROM drive itself. In that case, you may need to consider replacing the drive. Feel free to try these steps and let me know if you need further assistance or if you have any other questions!
