Crysis 2: Gameplay impressions | GamesRadar

Never underestimate the power of a good demo-er. From what should have been a sterling first look at the gameplay of Crysis 2 ended up as a bit of ham-fisted blast-a-thon that barely showed off the brilliance of this New York-based shooter. It's ironic as we were told at the beginning of the demo just how varied the game allows you to be - stealthy, gung-ho or tactical. Yet they were all mashed into one big bullet-filled patty.

Regardless, you can still just about see the genius shining through. Everything about Crysis is big and dramatic. From the way that Prophet (what they're calling the hero in the demo) drops from the sky and lands with a thunderous thud when leaping from buildings to the huge sniper rifles you can fire while invisible. Heck, you can even twat enemies with parasols if you like. But it's the NYC setting, which thrills us most. A place, say the developers, will help to drive the story rather than the island action of the previous game.

OK, so loads of titles use the Big Apple as a backdrop but combined with the superb visuals that Crytek are capable of producing Crysis 2 is already looking hot.

The demo we were walked through starts off with Prophet staring out from a bust up building on Wall Street. Choppers fly past and debris falls from the skyscraper as the camera pans around the incredibly detailed destruction below.

A quick leap to the ground, from some 20 stories high or so, and Prophet is scanning the area. Marking off his targets with his nanosuits goggles. All starts off well - a huge jump lands him behind an enemy on rooftop who meets his maker with a stealth kill. Another enemy is at the end of walkway but rather than remain invisible all hell breaks loose as Prophet opens fire with a machine gun that's as loud as war. Soon there are soldiers flanking and peppering our hero from all angles, which he quickly deals with.

But as the dust settles, Prophet is invisible again and staring down the sights of a sniper rifle ready to take out a distant enemy, sadly a stray shot is fired and suddenly his position is revealed again meaning more strafing and shooting. It's at this point we wonder whether God mode is on.

The rest of the rooftop action is full of run and gun, apart from two key moments when a) a guard is picked up by his throat and thrown through a window to his death and b) a parasol is used to twat an enemy unconscious.

We also get to see our hero in an unfamiliar, vulnerable position as he's captured by the enemy and has all his powers depleted. Mysteriously, his suit powers up again when a giant enemy spike erupts through a building and kills all the grunts around him with its spooky power.

As he regains full strength he takes on a few aliens in a dazzle of explosions, grenades and uber violence and then the demo ends. We're already looking forward to this immensely, and even though the demo was a bit slap-dash it's plain to see it's going to be great.

Hi Hulk,
the latest patch can be found in two ways (just for future ref). You can either navigate to your 'Bin 32' folder found in the actual Crysis 2 folder ( C: Drive/Program files/Electronic arts/Crytek/Crysis 2/bin 32)
Inside you'll find the Crysis 2 exe and Crysis 2 'launcher'. Click the launcher to update.

You can also try the official site found here: Link Removed due to 404 Error

On this occasion though and just for ease you can find the latest 1.8 patch here: Patches and Fixes: Crysis 2 v1.8 Patch - Demo Movie Patch Download Section - GamersHell.com
Release notes for the patch can be found a few posts back from this one.
Re: Crysis 2-Prophets Journey

News on patch 1.5:

Hi everyone!

We've got a list of changes that will be coming in the next patch that we'd like to share with you. There's some great new features coming to Crysis 2, one of the main ones being the new "Advanced Graphics Options" menu which will allow you to tweak graphics settings beyond the presets.

We also added a feature to the votekick system which allows voting to be performed with a simple press of the F1 key. To initiate votekicks on players is still the same method as before, however to vote for that kick, all you need to do now is hit the F1 key. There's many other changes included in the up coming patch, check them out below!

New Features
• Added advanced graphics options
• Added F1 to vote during vote kicks
• Prematch mode for ranked servers added allowing people to fight on the map until sufficient players have joined for the ranked play to start
• Upped the default score limits in some game modes:
• - Crash Site has a limit of 175 (was 150)
• - Team Instant Action has a limit of 75 (was 50)
• - Instant Action has a limit of 30 (was 25)

Fixes
• Fixed vote kicking not working for players with certain characters in their name
• Fixed ping display displaying 1000 for many servers in the PC server browser
• Fixed issue where terrain would be rendered in black on some levels
• Fixed single player save games with broken nano catalyst values (NB: This is for existing save games!)
• Fixed under-barrel attachment HUD displaying incorrectly
• Fixed minor 'Loadout Pro' exploit
• Fixed issue with being melee'd during a ledge grab (which could lead to fly exploits)
• Fixed some AI spawning issues in single player
• Fixed rare crash in single player
• Fixed an audio loop issue on the single player level "Semper Fi"
• Fixed an issue with the DLC store which could lead to players not being able to access the purchase history tab. Players can now access this tab, and from there download their DLC straight into their game and have it auto installed for them
• Fixed other cosmetic issues in the DLC store
• Fixed Light Shotgun attachment skill assessment not being levelled up
• Optimization to SSAO
• Further Anti cheat improvements
• Tweaked in-game audio dialogue (player taunts, announcements, etc) to be more diverse with more content for more events
• Mystery dog tags unlocked whilst not connected to a server will now remain unlocked
• Players that have rebooted will no longer be able to enter "New Recruits" servers

Balance Changes
• Balance changes to a variety of weapons, including:
• - JAW rocket speed and damage reduced
• - Under-barrel shotgun effectiveness reduced
• - Removed accuracy bonus for crouching with HMG
• - Increased K-Volt damage
• Balance changes to a variety of nanosuit modules, including:
• - Reduced the bonus that extended mags provides
• - Point fire enhance has improved effectiveness
• - Mobility Enhance has reduced effectiveness
• Balance change to Maximum Suit's armour: effectiveness has been slightly reduced
• Balance change to headshot damage from 1.8x to 1.5x

The update is not too far away and once we have a definite date set for release we'll be sure to let you know here! For the console players, if you're reading this, your patch notes are coming shortly and will be put up as soon as they are ready.

Thanks!
- MyCrysis Team

[TD]Hey guys, just an update that this patch will be going live tomorrow :)

Please ensure you run the Crysis2Launcher.exe tomorrow to receive the automatic update. I will also try and organise a direct download for anyone that may be having issues with the auto updater (but you should really use the auto updater and report any issues so that we can ensure it works 100%).

Here is some footage taken at a Nvidia convention discussing and showing DX11 re Crysis 2. The shots aren't really that clear but it's nice to know it's on it's way... (many of the community believe it will in todays patch. Let's hope so!)

Patch '1.8' is now live and downloading!

cheers, doesnt seem a very big patch, from the time it took under 100mb

also any idea why jumped from 1.4 to 1.8??? no 1.5, 1.6 or 1.7

Yup it's around 70mb, as for the number, not sure. So far no explanation has been given. One other little 'titbit' is that the advanced graphic options are stage one. Further updates are forthcoming eventually resulting in DX11. The game looks better already IMO. Dx9 has been pushed as far as can be and the latest optimisation of SSAO makes it look even better.

Dx9 pushed to the max!

Oh and the reason the patch is numbered 1.8 is that instead of releasing patches 1 at a time they've released them all together so to speak.
Since the 1.8 patch if you find your autoexec now doesn't work place spaces like this:

g_skipIntro = 1

This is instead of the original way which was:

g_skipIntro=1

Enjoy.

Some screenies.

New info on a update:

Hi everyone,

A live update is heading to all 3 platforms very shortly. The aim of this update is to counter XP boosting in Capture the Relay. In it's previous form, you would earn 100XP for returning your teams relay. This scoring method was being abused by boosters (boo, hiss).

The adjustments we've made to the scoring system mean that now instead of getting 100XP for returning your relay and 300XP for an enemy relay capture you now get 400XP for capturing the enemy relay but 0XP for returning your relay.

We feel this is a good compromise/reward and a way to invalidate boosting. Now, in order to boost XP, you need to actually play the game properly (go from point A to point B!) :) As per all previous live-updates, all you need to do in order to apply it is exit the MP menu and go back in (it's applied when you open MP).

Thanks!

Crytek is very close to release with the new graphic upgrades. See this page for screenshots and download links (which don't work yet).
It looks like there will be two packs, one for DX11 with tessellation and a high res' texture pack which Crytek say's needs a graphics solution with at least 1GB of onboard Vram.

I still maintain this hasn't been written post release and was actually removed from the game before it shipped.... why? simple... make the console version appear to be on par with PC and the console fans buy it thinking they've got one over us, had the PC looked way better (which it will now) then the golden cow of console sales would have been quicker to bitch about PC looking that much better and Ea would have more likely sold far less copies on the console platforms.

It's a tactic I believe is becoming far more common than many companies would like to let on, just look at the vast array of console ports that have been deliberately hobbled to perform badly (GTA4 is a prime example) or look console grade or delayed for years.

There's a lot of big companies want PC to die as a platform so they can feed us with overprice console games, simply because we refuse to spend £50 on one game, refuse to pay fees for the right to play online (MMO subscriptions aside obviously) or have dedicated servers and LAn modes, PC users expect far higher quality on a vast arrange of hardware... consoles all have just a few minor variations to components over 5-6 year period making it VERY easy and cheap to get the same performance for everyone, yep that's right it's all about the buck, sure theres a few that put PC first... where it should always be, but thats bucking the trend.

Down to sales figures in much the same way all the very best TV shows are cancelled due to stats that have little real world accuracy to the total viewers... how many times do we see epic Tv shows cancelled yet utter trash reality shows run for nearly a decade, it's the same with games, till people wake up a realise they are being shafted with pretty but shoddy overpriced games that can be finished in a day, that have terrible online modes (Looking at you COD MW2 and Black Ops) and utter lack of anti-cheat protection, until we vote with our pockets and stop following marketing ploys and hype, we are all responsible for letting them get away with it.
