Windows 7 Deleting an active network location?

So I see a lot of deleting network location instructions, buuut they don't work for me as for some reason these networks are permanently active and therefore untouchable. I need a way to disconnect them (also no obvious option for this) or override whatever keeps me from deleting them.

Will it not serve your purpose to simply prevent your pc from automatically connecting to them by unchecking the "automatically connect" box?

Don't understand that - how does your pc connect wirelessly to networks which are not reported as being detected?

Neither do I, but through a stroke of luck I figured out how to remove them in my fiddling. To disable active network connections in Win7 x64, click Start, type "View network connections", right click the connection in the window, and click disable. It can then be deleted via the "Merge or Delete Network Locations" menu found by clicking one of the icons under "View your active networks" in the Network and Sharing Center.
