Hello All,
I am experiencing a very debilitating issue with my laptop. The error indicated on the title of this thread appears every time I try to open multiple programs on my machine; the error is present in at least the following applications: Windows explorer, HP SimplePass, HP CSI Shell, HP Support Assistant, HP Installer, Adobe Acrobat X Pro, Synaptics TouchPad V7.5... and perhaps even more.
I include with this message a zip file with some recent logs (CBS. log, Errors Event Viewer, Last Scan.txt, Malware log.txt, Check Disk Event Viewer log) for your review so that both of us can save some valuable time.
In the past I faced something similar ---though somehow I resolved it. If my memory is correct there was a common thing that was present before and is present now: I plugged a Dell keyboard on one of my laptop's USB hubs (a set of drivers were installed automatically). Could it be a application/software conflict issue the cause of my problem?I
I tried to restore the laptop to a previous point; however, for some type of error --that I cannot remember what it was-- it was not possible to complete the system restore.
Note: I am not an expert on either computer software or hardware by any means so, I would really appreciate if you help me out to sort this issue having that in mind.
In the midst of my ignorance, I reckon this is not a hardware issue; apart from the issue mentioned above my machine seems to be working normally.
Thanks in advance for your help.

You can download a copy of Windows 7 here:
http://www.w7forums.com/threads/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-image-downloads.12325/
You could download the software and burn it to disk. You'll then need to change your boot order so that you can boot from the Windows disk and then hit repair on the install screen.

Hi,
looking through your CBS logs I came across this:
Utilman.exe is Windows utility manager and by the looks of it is corrupted. If you have the Windows installation DVD then boot off that but instead of installing hit repair.
looking through your CBS logs I came across this:

Hi kemical,
Thanks for your response.
What about if you do not have the Windows installation DVD? My laptop was shipped without the DVD when I purchased it from HP. What can I do to repair utilman.exe without the Windows Installation DVD?

Okay, after a painful process, I was able to download W7-64-bit from a different link (yours for some reason did not work). I changed the boot order and started from *Internal CD/DVD*. Then I hitted *repair* and was asked if I wanted to try the system to restore to point where things were working okay (paraphrase of the actual words) to which I clicked *yes*; almost two hours later, the *startup repair* finished... Windows started again but my problem remains.
Was utilman.exe fixed? I have no idea.

Hmm... Damn. Ok try this, reboot and keep pressing F8 whilst booting up to get the advanced Boot options. Try the setting 'Last good known configuration'. This support page will advise you on the process:

Not sure but it appears that instead of a repair you did a restore of the system from an earlier time. Try this again and don't do the restore. You may have to do the repair more than once for everything to be repaired.
