Windows 8 "Failed to install Windows Updates"?

I've had this problem for months now and I'm at a loss about what to do next.
I've ran the Windows Diagnostic Tool- multiple times. No change.
I've refreshed my PC. No change.
I've just recently reset my laptop back to factory settings and still nothing has changed.

Honestly, I don't know what else to do. Most of the other threads and articles I've read state that resetting Windows is a last resort. But if that doesn't work, what else will?
Can someone help? This is getting frustrating now. I have to wait 20 minutes at least to get into my PC every time I shut it down.
All help appreciated!

This is the error you are getting
ERROR_BAD_FORMAT

11 (0xB)
An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format.

Your update cache might be corrupt, you can try clearing your update cache and re-run Windows update.

Press (Windows key + r)
Type services.msc
Stop the following services
- Background Intelligent Transfer Service
- Windows Update
Delete C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution directory
Restart Windows Update service
Check for updates

Have you checked the Event Viewer and/or WindowsUpdate.log file for errors?

Yes, I have found a whole host of errors within it.
Failed to get Wu Exemption
Exit code = 0x8024000B
WU client failed Searching for update with error 0x8024000b
Failed to filter search results, error = 0x8024000B
CheckIfDirExists returned error 0x80070002

There are probably more but these are the ones that were found at a glance. I'm not sure how I should go about tackling all of these. They all seem different. Would it be worth just turning off updates?

Does the Windows Update "Automatic Troubleshooter" resolve the problem?

Also it is not advised to turn off automatic updates, as they provide vital security updates that helps keep your computer safe.

This is actually the program I've been using. I've ran it multiple times. It says it finds issues and it says it's fixed them, but I still get the errors.
