Hello,

Well over the last or so I have had some issues with Windows 7:

"All Programs" not showing: I installed some games and they showed up until I restarted and they were gone with everything else. I have read about this bug and I don't seem to think anyone knows just why it is happening. I'm guessing they just capped it to 99 or something.

The Black Screen of Death: As I run several monitors off this laptop, some times my laptop monitor (My main) goes black but the other monitor(s) are still running. I'm going out on a limb to say it's the Video Driver's.

Freezing application: I have noticed that Windows 7 does not like the following programs:

Adobe After Effect CS3 (From time to time)
Fraps Professional

.avi: I have noticed that the new Windows media player is not playing all my .avi files. I have many movies and only some play. I think it's down to a codec issue but I'm not sure if that is the case and if it is, where to get them. It is playing the sounds but not the video.

Here is my spec:
Upgraded from Vista > W7 7100
Processor: Intel Pentium T2390, 1.86 Dual.
Ram: 2 Gig
ST: 32-Bit

Any help with these issues?

Cheers.

It seems like you're encountering several issues with your Windows 7 system. Let's address each problem you mentioned:

"All Programs" not Showing:

The issue where the programs disappear from the Start Menu's "All Programs" list after a reboot might be due to a corrupt user profile or a cached profile issue. Here's a general solution to try:
  1. Create a New User Account:
    • Create a new user account and check if the issue persists in the new account. If the problem doesn't occur in the new account, then your user profile might be corrupt.

      Black Screen of Death:

The black screen issue could indeed be related to the graphics drivers. You can try the following steps to address this:

      Black Screen of Death:

The black screen issue could indeed be related to the graphics drivers. You can try the following steps to address this:
    []Update Graphics Drivers:
    • Visit the website of your laptop manufacturer or the graphic card manufacturer to download and install the latest driver for your graphics card.

      Freezing Application:

If specific applications like Adobe After Effects CS3 and Fraps Professional are freezing, here are some steps you can take:
    [
    ]Compatibility Mode:
    • Try running these applications in compatibility mode. Right-click on the application's shortcut, go to Properties, select the Compatibility tab, and choose an older version of Windows.

      .avi Files Not Playing:

The issue with Windows Media Player not playing all .avi files could be due to missing codecs. Here's how you can address this:
    []Install Codecs:
    • Download and install a codec pack like K-Lite Codec Pack. This pack includes various codecs that can help Windows Media Player play different file types.

      System Specifications:

Your system specifications are on the lower end for Windows 7, which could also contribute to performance issues. However, Windows 7 should still run on this configuration.

      Additional Recommendations:

    [
    ]Check for Malware:
    • Run a full system scan with an updated antivirus program to ensure that malware is not causing the issues.
  2. System Maintenance:
    • Perform regular maintenance tasks like disk cleanup, disk defragmentation, and ensuring that Windows updates are installed. Try these steps and see if they help resolve the issues you are facing with Windows 7. If you continue to experience problems, feel free to ask for further assistance.
