Windows 7 Keeping programs and settings when upgrading.

Hi, I am currently running RC 1 Ultimate, but am going to update that installation to an RTM release one of these days. Now, I wonder how/if I can keep all the laboriously installed and fine-tuned programs and system settings after the update.

Can I use Backup/Restore, backing up before the update and restoring that backup after updating and, if so, how do I choose what to back up?

I would greatly appreciate help with this!

Backup/restore won't really help, you may want to consider a technique like the following, even though this post is moving from XP to Win 7 the approacch still applies:
