I bought a used HP laptop which had Vista Home Premium 32bit installed on it from new. I used it for a bit without any problems but decided i wanted Windows 7 Home premium instead.
I fitted a brand new hard drive for this and decided to install the 32bit version.
Since doing this i keep getting the (Not Responding) message at the top of the screen no matter what i am doing, eg web browsing or photo editing etc..
All drivers are upto date and yes the drivers for Windows 7 are installed for the laptop from the HP website.
The laptop has an AMD Athlon X2 64 2.1ghz processor and 3 gig of DDR2 800mhz ram.

The issue is very annoying so does anyone have any idea what could be causing this??

Thanks.

It sounds like you are experiencing performance issues with your HP laptop after upgrading it to Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit. The "(Not Responding)" message often indicates that a program or the system itself has stopped responding and may be struggling to handle the tasks effectively. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Steps to Resolve "(Not Responding)" Issue:

  1. Check Task Manager:
    • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
    • Look for any processes that are consuming a lot of CPU or memory. This can help identify if a specific program is causing the unresponsiveness.
    []Update Software:

  1. Check Task Manager:
    • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
    • Look for any processes that are consuming a lot of CPU or memory. This can help identify if a specific program is causing the unresponsiveness.
    []Update Software:
    • Ensure that all your installed software, especially the web browser and photo editing software, is up to date.
    [
    ]Disable Unnecessary Startup Programs:
    • Some programs may start automatically and consume resources. Disable unnecessary programs from starting up with Windows:
      • Press Win + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
      • Go to the Startup tab and uncheck programs you don't need to start with your system.
    []Check for Malware:
    • Run a full system scan using your antivirus software to check for any malware that might be causing performance issues.
    [
    ]Update Graphics Drivers:
    • Ensure that your graphics drivers are up to date. You can download the latest drivers from the AMD website.
    []Disk Cleanup:
    • Perform a disk cleanup to remove temporary files and free up disk space:
      • Press Win + R, type cleanmgr, and press Enter.
    [
    ]Check System Resources:
    • Monitor your system resources using Task Manager to see if CPU, RAM, or disk usage is unusually high.
    []Check for Windows Updates:
    • Make sure your Windows 7 installation is fully updated. Install any pending updates.
    [
    ]Consider Hardware Limitations:
    • While Windows 7 can run on systems with 3 GB of RAM, it may struggle with heavy multitasking or resource-intensive applications.
  2. Consider Upgrading Hardware:
    • If the system is too slow even after optimization, consider upgrading to a system with better specifications, especially if you use resource-intensive applications frequently.

      Additional Tips:

      • Ensure that your drivers are compatible with Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit.
      • Check for any conflicts between software or drivers that may be causing the issue.
By following these steps, you may be able to identify the cause of the performance issues and improve the overall responsiveness of your laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium.
