So hp just emailed me back, hopefully this will fix the problem for good
"Samantha, I checked the computer specifications and found that this computer is shipped with Truckee Motherboard. There are known issues with this motherboard and HP is replacing this motherboard under warranty without any cost."

I feel like if it was a known problem they should've sent out a mass email or something though, so I didn't go through all this trouble
