I originally pinned windows explorer to the taskbar. I added specific folder destinations to it, so when I right clicked on it it would show some folders that I liked to get to quickly (like pictures, music, downloads, etc.. That was on top of the recent items that it automatically put in there.

All of a sudden a couple of days ago, when I right click on it, the only options that it would give me were "windows explorer", "Unpin this program from the taskbar", and "close this window" when I had it open. I don't know what happened to all of the other options like the recent items and the destination folders that I had added.

I tried unpinning it and then re-adding it but it still remained the same. I tried restarting but that didn't do anything. I guess I could try doing a system restore, but that seems a bit overkill just for this problem. I would like to try to solve this problem without doing that so in case this happens again I can figure out a solution.

If anything at all has changed in the past couple of days it would be that I installed Growl and Growl email. I am not using them for anything really other than sending notifications to my iphone through firefox. And none of the other icons are being affected with their functions when I right click on them, so I am assuming that-that isn't the problem.

Thanks for reading.

It seems like the context menu options for Windows Explorer pinned to your taskbar have changed unexpectedly, and you're missing the folders and recent items you had added previously. This issue might have been triggered by a recent software installation like Growl and Growl email, although it's unclear if that's the direct cause. To troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue without resorting to a system restore, you can try the following steps: 1. Reset the Windows Explorer Taskbar Pin: - Unpin Windows Explorer from the taskbar. - Open File Explorer, navigate to the folders you want quick access to. - Right-click on each folder and choose "Pin to Taskbar" to re-pin them individually. 2. Check Taskbar Settings: -...

Check Taskbar Settings: - Right-click on the taskbar and go to "Taskbar settings." - Under "Notification area," click on "Select which icons appear on the taskbar" and ensure the "Windows Explorer" setting is enabled. 3. Clear Recent Items: - Clear the recent items list to see if it refreshes the context menu. - Right-click the taskbar, select "Properties," go to the "Jump Lists" tab, and click on "Clear" under "Recent items." 4. Check Group Policy Settings: - Group Policy settings might affect the context menu options. To check: - Press Win + R, type gpedit.msc, and hit Enter. - Navigate to User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Start Menu and Taskbar. - Look for settings related to context menus and ensure they are not configured to restrict the options. 5. Run System File Checker (SFC): - Running SFC can help fix corrupted system files that might be causing the issue. - Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run sfc /scannow. 6. Create a New User Profile: - Create a new local user account and check if the issue persists there. This can help determine if the problem is specific to your user profile. If none of these steps resolve the issue, you may consider creating a system restore point before attempting any further troubleshooting steps. This will allow you to revert back to a stable state if needed.
