My desktop wallpaper disappeared mysteriously some time ago. I haven't done anything about it for a long time, assuming the problem would fix itself, then eventually not caring, but now I've begun to develop some desktop art of my own, and it's starting to become annoying.
I right-click on an image and choose "Set as Desktop Background" or go to Start>Settings>Control Panel>Personalization and select a new Desktop Background from there. But while I'm using the computer, the only thing I see is a solid color. I can change the color, but it won't display an image. I've tried it with bmp., .jpg, .gif, and .png, with pictures of all sizes and resolutions, with tile, center, and stretch. The only thing that appears is the background color. When I shut down my computer and all the icons disappear, I get a glimpse of the background image just before it goes to the Shut-Down screen. Likewise when I boot up the computer, just before the desktop icons appear. And yes, I have tried de-selecting "Show Desktop Icons." I've tried just changing whole themes, but I still don't get an image, even the default Vista wallpaper.
