Windows 10 Watchdog crash and no screen/PC unusable but on

I did it a month ago or so because of a problem I had with a game resolution, so I guess that's enough, right?

Hmm well like I said I use it everytime but especially if you have had recent gpu issues. I'd do it anyway just to be on the safe side.

I was going to use DDU when I realised that I actually use two GPUs, Intel and nVidia, one monitor each. I deleted both drivers/profiles with DDU and now I'm using just nVidia. Let's see if that solves something.

Also, I have deleted MSI Gaming APP, because sometimes the app makes my desktop icons to have some flicker, so it may be causing some troubles with the theme, who knows.

Let's see how it goes this week.

Sounds promising and those MSI apps especially the overclocking ones can cause bsod's so it's worth removing as a test.

Hope all goes well this week.

Seems like there's been no problems this week, not a single 'black screen' issue this time!! I guess it is misteriously resolved now. This weekend I will install again MSI Gaming App and see what happens.

OK, I've been working all week with MSI Gaming App installed, and I had not a single problem!

A few words on this though. There's no doubt that these kind of apps tend to make more damage than good. I actually use this particular one to control a few things about my GPU. But, when reinstalling, I took a closer look and found a lot of 'garbage', we could say.

I turned off the four automatic tasks that comes with the app on the scheduled task manager, as I don't use the app for any in-game overlay or anything like that. Also, I found a 'driver' folder in the app's installation folder (C:\Program Files\MSI\Gaming APP by default). There, I found a uninstall.exe, so I ran it as I don't want any special driver on my system.

Also, I noticed a process that needs to be running for the app to work. This is 'muachost.exe' and it can be found on C:\Windows\SysWOW64 (it is installed with the app, is not a system file despite the path). I don't know why, but when changing my wallpaper, this exe would cause my desktop icons to start flickering. I replaced the exe with other one that does nothing but keeps running, so the app can run as well.

After those steps, now I have the app running fine and no further problems.

There's only two more things for me to try. One is plugging the second monitor on the Intel CPU and install its drivers. The other one is to install the drivers for the displays. Maybe one of the two are the cause of the black screen, or maybe that thing is already solved.

In any case, I have done step one already. Let's wait for another week and see what happens.

Thanks to all.

Much thanks for the informative update.

Your doing a fine job and we really appreciate you sharing. Hope things continue.. :)

Any news?

I just noticed you reading the thread earlier and wondered if an issue had returned?

Sorry guys, I've been ill for a few days. I installed one monitor drivers last weeks and no errors by now. This weekend I will install the other monitor drivers and see how it goes. Or that driver is the cause, or the cause were resolved time ago xD

Cheers.

Seems that, after all, no more errors ocurred. Either the full wipe of *both* video drivers did the trick, or maybe the way I'm now running the MSI Gaming APP is the solution. Those are the only steps I can think of that may have changed something. In any case, thanks to all for the support!
